“It’s as good of an idea as any. Let us know if you need support.” Reaper turns to me. “Any updates from Mav?”

I shake my head. “I know he’s alive, but he hasn’t checked in. After Rebel got fired for eavesdropping, Dansworth tightened his control. He will contact us when he can.”

I frown at the reminder. Dansworth fired Rebel, so we sent him back home. He didn’t want to go, but keeping him here was dangerous. Dansworth didn’t know he was with us. He thought Rebel was trying to blackmail him, so it was better to get him gone. As rough as our reunion started, I was sad to see him go. After Remi showed and we made amends, Rebel stopped treating me like a pariah.

The only problem is Dansworth also began to question others in his circle. It’s been too dangerous to approach Maverick. Dansworth even moved him out of the apartment. Said it was traced back to our club. Maverick was able to leave behind a note explaining that he had to play into Dansworth’s bullshit but that he would be okay.

Still, I hate that he has gone under so deep. It’s been three weeks since he has made contact. If it weren’t for the fact that Trigger can monitor him through cameras, I would worry he was already dead.

“We need to keep an eye on it. His life isn’t worth losing over this. If we need to pull him and send him home, then we do it,” Reaper states.

No one contradicts him.

“When are we letting up on lockdown?” Honk asks.

“We aren’t. Not until he is gone. I know it’s not ideal, but we need to keep everyone safe,” Reaper tells him.

He looks like he is itching to get out. I don’t blame him. Last week Dansworth made another play at us. In response, we went into lockdown. Evelyn is still going to work, but with a full escort. The hospital hasn’t said a word about a waiting room full of bikers. Not that they would after they had to eat crow.

It made me happy to see them retract all the negative media about Evelyn. She went from a pariah to a victim in the public’s eyes overnight.

Honk clears his throat. “Adalyn would like to help however she can. I still don’t agree with it, but she sees how things are going. I offered to get her out of town. Send her to a safe house, but she refuses. She says she wants to stay here with us. That she finally feels like she has a family.”

“I know you have your reservations,” Reaper starts, “but we may need to use her. We will keep her safe and only allow her to do what we would allow our old ladies to do, though. No unnecessary risks. For now, we keep her in our back pocket. We see where Trigger’s plan takes us and work from there. All in favor of this route?”

A chorus of “ayes” rings out.

“Meeting adjourned. Honk, hang back a moment.”

I’m the last to exit the room, shutting the door behind me. As I do, I can hear Reaper speak.

“How are you doing really?”

I don’t hear Honk’s answer, but it reminds me why I love this club. The president cares about each of us. He wants what is best for us, even if it isn’t always what’s best for the club. He could use Adalyn for a hell of a lot more than he is now, but he refuses. He checks in with Honk and his sobriety. I know he has been visiting with Pinky to check his progress while also keeping an eye on Sunny’s sobriety.

He’s a good man, and I’m glad I decided to follow him.

I walk over to the bar, wrapping my arm around Evelyn as she chats with Tara. She kisses my arm before going back to her conversation.

Yeah, I’m really glad I made Vegas my home.

Evelyn

“You got the attending position. I am so proud of you, girl.” Travis hugs me when he finds me in the doctors’ lounge.

“You think they only gave it to me because they are afraid of my lawyer?” I joke.

“No way. You’re the best doctor here. Even better than me.”

I frown. “Are you going to look for a position elsewhere?”

He shakes his head. “I like it here. I heard Dr. Kimber is looking for a chief position at Boston General. Maybe if she leaves, I will have a shot.”

“I’ll make sure to put in a good word for you,” I tell him.

“Will you, though? We both know if I become an attending too, I’ll be on a different shift.”

I grab his hand. “As much as I will miss you, we will still hang out. On our days off and holidays, and we will pass each other at shift change. Besides, the phone exists for a reason.”
