He freezes before cupping my cheek. “The guys told you.”
“Yeah, but I want to hear it from you.”
“You really want to know?” he asks.
“I want to know everything about you.”
He smiles. “When Remi and I joined, I was the isolated brother. I preferred to move in the dark. It reminded the old president of the lore of Hades. He was given the dark world because he also preferred to be isolated and in the dark. He said it fit.”
I hum against his chest. “I like that. Hades, my king.”
He presses a kiss to my temple. “Always your king and your servant. Sleep now.”
“Okay,” I mumble, falling asleep. “I love you.”
I don’t even make it past the last word before I’m fast asleep.
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Hades
Iwatch as Evelyn pushes food around her plate.
“You need to eat,” I remind her.
She lifts one shoulder without looking up. “I don’t even know why I’m going to this meeting.”
My stomach clenches with worry. The last few days I’ve watched Evelyn mourn her career. Some moments she’s angry as fuck, ready to burn Dansworth’s home to the ground. Then the next, she’s all doom and gloom, thinking that there is no happy ending for her current situation, and maybe she’s right.
I fucking hate that I can’t promise her that it will all buff out.
“You’re going because the hospital recommended it. You need to know your options,” I remind her.
Huffing, she leans back in her chair and finally looks up at me. “Let’s be honest, the representative is not going to have my best interest in mind. To them, I’m just another screw-up who pays them. They don’t care if I was wrongly accused or not.”
“You don’t know, maybe this one is different.”
Evelyn scoffs.
“Well if you hate him after your meeting, we can go meet up with Atticus or whatever his name is.”
Evelyn’s brows furrow. “Who’s Atticus?”
“The club lawyer. Or at least I think that’s what Trigger said his name is. Now I’m second-guessing it,” I mutter, trying to think back.
Evelyn shakes her head. “No, I think you might be right. I just don’t think I’ve ever heard his first name. I wonder why they use it now.”
“Do you really want to question Trigger and his methods?” I ask.
Evelyn hums. “Sounds like a solid way to pass the time. Best of all, it would drive him absolutely crazy.”
“Let’s not piss the hacker off when you need him on your side. At least hold off until after you’re done using his services.”
“Fine. You’re no fun.” She huffs, looking back down at her plate.
Her phone buzzes on the table, and she doesn’t even reach for it. I catch the name as it flashes across the screen.
“He’s worried about you,” I say, nodding toward her phone.
