Tessa goes with a French tip, Phoebe hot pink, Becca picks light pink and me, I pick red.

Phoebe held her foot up when the polish was finished. “Look at these.”

“Very subtle,” I say.

“Thank you.”

“That wasn't a compliment.”

“I took it as one.” She points to mine. “Since it came from miss subtle herself.”

“Red just works for me.” I shrug.

Tessa wiggles her toes. “Lucas is going to love these.”

“He already loves your feet,” Phoebe said.

Tessa grins. “I know.”

“Oh, God,” Becca said. “Here we go.”

“What?”

“You're doing the thing.”

“What thing?” Tessa asks.

“The Lucas thing.”

Tessa laughs. “I'm not doing anything.”

“You just said he loves your feet.”

“He does.”

“And you love that he loves your feet.” I add.

“Of course I do.”

Phoebe looked at me. “See? This is why we can't talk about boys.”

“You talk about Alex plenty,” I remind her.

She immediately feigned innocence. “I do not.” All three of us stared at her. “Okay,” she said. “Maybe a little.”

“A little?” Becca snorts. “You talk about him in your sleep.”

Phoebe yells, “I do not!”

Tomorrow we'll all be dressed up, our hair done, and we'll be walking into the dance together.

For now, though, we were just four senior girls, class of 93, sitting in a salon, laughing too loud and making plans for a night that hadn't even happened yet.

Best. Year. Ever.

Due to the fact, Lucas was pouting all day about not seeing Tessa tonight, she asked Becca to stop and grab McDonald’s to bring him. I love that Tommy was like, have fun and not being a little bitch baby… but whatever, I got a chocolate shake, all is well.

By the time we pull up outside Lucas’s house, the laughter has died down.
