The amused smoulder Massimo gives me makes me flush, “Hello to you too, Miss Lewis.”
“Hi,” I’m not proud of the way my voice squeaks the word. I startle as someone, Lucas, appears next to me. His blonde hair is perfectly styled.
“Hello, Sir. You’ll have to excuse our junior. What can we help you with?” Lucas inquires, his chest puffing out as he addresses the immaculately dressed Massimo. If he were dressed any other way that would have suggested he made less money, Lucas would be shooing him away, but one thing I have learned here is that money will open any door.
Massimo barely spares Lucas a glance as he holds out the envelope, “I’m here to speak with Miss Lewis.”
The raw power in his voice makes Lucas cower back, but I stay put, facing the man who has single-handedly upended my world in the last week with a single kiss. Massimo’s coffee-coloured irises swirl with desire, as if he can read my every thought.
“I found one more file for your records. It’s a detailed log of the men and women who have paid for time with our women in the back rooms.” Massimo extends the manila envelope to me, and I narrow my eyes at him.
I swear I just read these logs today.
Massimo gives me a look that tells me not to question him, so I keep my thoughts to myself, “Thank you, Mr. Bianchi.”
Massimo looks between Lucas and I, “May I have a minute of your time?”
Lucas opens his big mouth to speak for me, but I beat him to it, “Of course.”
I step past Massimo, his leather and mint clouding around me as I brush past him. Massimo lets the door close. On the other side of the glass, a confused Lucas looks out at us as I walk Massimo around the corner toward the exit.
“So, why are you really he–” My question is cut off by my own startled gasp as Massimo takes my arm and spins me around into his muscular chest.
“I wanted to see you again.” He says simply like a man who has never been told he couldn’t have exactly what he wanted.
A part of me, more stubborn than anything else, wants to push him away and tell him he can’t always have what he wants, but the other part, the one that has been craving his touch since his condo, keeps the stubborn side locked up tight.
“Oh?” Another squeak, and heat flares up my chest as I cringe at myself.
Massimo’s large, calloused hand grips my chin, forcing me to look at him. My jaw falls slack in his hands, and all I want to do is kiss him again. Feel the addictive pleasure he elicits from my body unlike anybody else. He looks like he’s about to say something, but then a sound somewhere between a whimper and a whine escapes my body.
“So, fucking needy,” His voice oozes something close to obsession… or rather, a possessiveness by the very idea of me. My stomach dips in response to him.
I don’t have time to contemplate his words before his lips land on mine, giving me exactly what I want—what I need.
This kiss isn’t as slow and controlled as the one in the kitchen. Massimo doesn’t give me a chance to ease into this one. He devours me. As if my lips are the gateway to my soul, he feeds on every ounce of my being. His teeth nip my tender lips, making heat coil and pleasure wash over me.
I try to follow as the hand, which is not currently cupping my face, drops to my trembling hands. He slows the kiss enough to give me a chance to breathe as he moves my hands to his chest. His shirt is soft, made of fabric far more expensive than I have ever been able to afford, but it isn’t the fabric that has me in awe, it’s his erratic heartbeat under my palms.
A broken sound slips from me, making Massimo growl. His chest vibrates, and I cling to him. More. I need more. I don’t know what more, but I need it.
All too soon, he pulls away from me. I try to keep him there, following his lips, making him chuckle, “Not here, sweetheart.”
The world around us comes slamming back in—the waiting room chairs, the large wooden desk where Shelly usually sits, and the massive open concept entry room that is only separated from the pedestrians walking on the street by a curtain wall.
I quickly right myself, pulling away from Massimo, “Sorry…”
“Don’t apologize.” The deep rumble rolls between us, plucking the tension like a guitar string. Teasing and taunting us, “I would be more than happy to continue that somewhere more private.”
His suggestive tone does nothing to cool the raging fire inside of me, eliciting a whimper as the ache crescendos.
“Mila?” Lucas’ voice calls, and Massimo grips my waist tightly, pulling me into him. Now, the sound of Lucas? That pours ice water down my body.
Massimo glares in the direction of his voice, “Tell him you need a minute.”
“One minute!” I call out, cheeks flaring red at the thought of being caught. It’s not like we were doing anything bad; we are both still fully dressed, and I’m not investigating Massimo per se… Just his clientele and club patrons.
“Debriefing has been called. We need your findings before I head for patrol.” The sound of the door shutting in the distance makes my spine relax, and I sink back into the wall behind me.
