My orgasm created a pool beneath my ass. “Ooooh…” I kissed him as he came, swallowing the rough sound in his throat. With his body pressed deeply onto mine, our heartbeats matched as we sank deeper into each other's arms.

Saturday

Heat pulled me from sleep.

It covered my chest and climbed my throat, spreading beneath my skin until the cool bedroom felt airless. Sweat gathered along my hairline. My nightgown clung to my back and stomach.

I pushed the blanket away. The movement exposed a patch of cold beneath me, and I froze. My palm pressed against the sheet and I silently cursed. It was wet. I sat up slowly. Moonlight entered through the curtains, revealing the darkened sheet beneath my body. The moisture extended beyond my side of the bed and beneath Elijah’s hip. Half his T-shirt had absorbed it where his body had been pressed against mine.

I was horrified.

I had sweated through my clothes before. I had awakened with moisture between my breasts and around the back of my neck. I had never soaked a bed so much that the man sleeping beside me wore part of it.

Elijah remained on his stomach; one arm stretched across the space I had occupied. His face was turned toward me, his breathing deep and even. He was sleeping soundly. Thank God.

I slid my legs over the side of the bed. Cool air moved across my wet skin, raising bumps along my arms. My nightgown peeled away from me as I stood. The mattress shifted. Elijah’s breathing changed, and I sprinted toward the bathroom before he opened his eyes.

“Frankie?”

I stopped with one hand against the doorframe. Behind me, he moved across the bed. The bedside lamp came on, washing the room in soft light. His gaze found me first. Then the bed. I closed my eyes.

“Turn the light off.”

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

The mattress released beneath his weight. His bare feet touched the floor.

“Are you sick?”

“No.”

“Did you spill something?”

“Don’t I wish.”

He grew silent behind me, and I folded my arms over my chest, although there was no hiding the wet satin plastered to my body.

“It was a night sweat.” His steps stopped. “A bad one,” I added.

I stared into the dark bathroom instead of turning around. The embarrassment burned almost as badly as the heat had.

“I’ve had them before. Not like this, but apparently my body decided to try something new tonight.”

Elijah came close enough for his warmth to reach my back.

“Are you still hot?”

I finally looked at him. The bottom half of his gray T-shirt was wet. One side of his boxer briefs had a dark patch near the hip. He looked as though someone had thrown water across him in his sleep, yet his face held no disgust. Only concern.

“The heat is passing.”
