“My husband doesn’t lie.”
“All men lie.”
“Not mine.”
“Newlywed delusion is a terrible thing.”
“Frankie.”
“I’m serious. Elijah hasn’t invited me anywhere.”
“He told Christian he called you.”
“He didn’t call me.”
“Did you check your phone?”
“I’m talking to you on it right now.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
I pulled the phone away from my ear and opened my recent calls. Naomi’s name sat at the top. Beneath hers was a missed call from Elijah at twelve fifty-eight yesterday.
My heartbeat stumbled.
“Oh.”
Naomi’s smugness traveled through the phone before she spoke. “What was that?”
“Nothing.”
I tapped the notification beside Elijah’s name. A voicemail waited beneath it.
“I might have missed one call,” I admitted.
“One call from whom?”
“You know who.”
“I want to hear you say it.”
“Girl, don’t start.”
“When did he call?”
“Yesterday afternoon.” My brows dipped. “How the hell did I miss it?” I murmured.
“I’m wondering the same thing.”
“I was recording another take of that workout video yesterday, then Malik and I took a nap. My phone was on silent the rest of the day.”
“Did he leave a message?”
I stared at the notification. “Yes.”
“Listen to it.”
I smiled, but my attention remained fixed on Elijah’s name. The man had actually called me. After our double date, I expected to hear from him the next day. Not because I was desperate or sitting around waiting for a man to validate me. I had plenty to occupy my time without checking my phone every five minutes.
