His grin is a nervous one.
“What’s your play, little assassin?” Viktor cuts straight to the chase. Arms crossed over his massive chest. Body filling half the entire room. Alley Cat glances over at him every few seconds and giggles to herself for no apparent reason.
“Enter the gala, full omega disguise. Same play I always use. Because it’s effective as fuck.”
He bristles, but says nothing. The vein at the side of his neck pops out a bit. His jaw clenches tighter too. He isn’t the only one who notices things. “You are obviously capable, little assassin."
“Little assassin?” Donnie laughs, and a small dribble of caffeinated soda spills from his mouth. “You two have pet names for each other now?”
“It’s not a fucking pet name.” I scowl, then turn my ire back to Viktor. “And stop calling me little.”
“You are little.”
“Yeah, and I’m also a killer.”
Before he can move away, I’ve spun around on my heel, pulled Mercy out from her hidey-hole at my thigh, and have Viktor at the receiving end of the steel edge.
He doesn’t even move. Doesn’t flinch. He only uncrosses his arms, letting one fall to his side without blinking.
Nobody says anything. Zero’s hand is on her own blade. Her eyes flick back and forth between us, and I can see she hasn’t quite figured out the nuance behind the tension running between Viktor and me yet.
Honestly, neither have I.
Alley Cat skips over to the couch and flops down like she’s watching a movie in real time.
“Are we ready to continue our planning?” Viktor asks.
“I don’t know. Are we?” I growl.
His eyes glance downward, and I expect there to be some sort of sexual implication to what he just said.
There, in the arm that dropped down to his side like an effortless reflex, is a knife in his hand with a jagged metal edge. Pointed just above my pelvis, close enough that if I leaned forward an inch, I’d bloodstain my outfit.
“Looks like the deadliest little omega has finally met her match, doesn’t it?”
He pulls me toward him, managing to keep his neck and my knife perfectly still, and suddenly something much bigger is stabbing my pelvis.
He’s cocky and competent. That much I’ll definitely give him. This daring contact is even closer and more personal than what happened the other day.
And we have an audience.
“I am proficient with nineteen other weapons, including my bare hands, Wraith. I can snap an alpha’s neck if I catch them at the right angle.”
“I’ve got no doubt you could. Skill is about leverage, not merely brute strength. What do you think about your angle right now?”
Our lower bodies are still pressed together. Mercy is still against his neck. And his blade is now gently touching the front of my body.
I bite my bottom lip.
This kind of weapon play does something to me that it has no business doing.
“Soo, are you guys about finished with whatever it is that you’re doing over there? We still have to figure out the roles.”
Viktor waits for me to lower Mercy first before he puts his own blade back in his pants. Yeah, that’s a double entendre.
“Zero can be added as a gala guest since she’s an alpha. You’ll be with me on comms, Donnie. You’ll hear everything that happens in the venue.”
“I’ll infiltrate the gala before the rest of you arrive.”
