“He will never bother you again.”
She leaned in close and kissed my cheek. “Then… thank you.”
I set my hands on her hips and sighed as I rested my head on top of hers. Holding her against me restored me.
“You’re not freaking out.”
She shook her head then kissed my chest. “How can I?”
I raised my brows.
“I’ve seen you… kill before. And I know you do it for justice.”
“I do it for you.”
She kept washing me. “I know. That’s why I know that no matter what happens, we can always be stronger together.”
I leaned down to frame her face now that my hands were clean. Kissing her tenderly, I poured all my heart into the seal of her sweet mouth under mine.
“I fucking love hearing you say that.”
She smiled, a shy one, before she bit her lip. “I wonder if you’ll be happy about something else I have to tell you.”
“Try me.”
She licked her lips and let out a shaky breath. Instead of speaking, she told me with actions. She took my hand and placed it on her stomach. The position was slightly awkward with us facing each other. But the bright hope in her blue gaze told me that I was following her cues. I was guessing right. If she wanted me to hold my hand here, it had to mean…
I smiled. It started slow, but with this shower thawing me out, her presence comforting me, and this news erasing the stain of killing Owen, it grew. Grinning at her, I dared to believe it.
“You’re pregnant?”
She nodded in reply to my whisper.
I lifted her, holding her up close to kiss her. Wrapping her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck, she clung to me and kissed me back, each hungry swipe of her lips after another.
“I guess this might mean you’re happy,” she teased after we parted for air.
I laughed once, holding her securely. “I’m shocked.”
She smiled and kissed me again. “Me too.”
“I thought you said it would be hard to conceive.”
She kissed me again. “I thought so too.”
I pulled her in close, kissing her as the start of this celebration.
“You’re pregnant,” I said instead of asking it for confirmation.
My cheeks were going to hurt from smiling this much.
She nodded. “I am.”
“We’re going to have a baby.”
She laughed lightly as she clung to me. “We are.”
“Yes, I’m happy!” I held her tightly as I moved toward the door. She reached out to shut the water off, but I didn’t drop her. I never would.
