“Get out,” she hisses, cutting me a glance. I’m not entirely sure she even realized I was gone. “Get out now. You know you’re not supposed to be here.”

Leaning against the wall, out of the way of the door, I look between them. Maybe I’ll have some sort of leverage after this. I have a curse, but apparently Iris has her own drama behind closed doors.

Dylan doesn’t miss a beat, jutting a finger back in the direction where I was just standing without looking over his shoulder. “He’s here.”

“He’s not staying for long,” Iris grumbles.

“And he’s not wearing any clothes!” Dylan continues, turning. He realizes I’ve moved, pivots, and slides on the floor. It’s almost sad how wasted he is right now.

Iris holds up her hands, peering between us. She edges away from Dylan, who turns his back on me again to watch her. “Dylan, go home. You’re drunk.”

“Nah-uh.” He shakes his head, balling up his hands. He can’t be serious right now. She’s not even being that infuriating, and after the evening we’ve had, I would know. “We need to finish what we started, babe.”

“We didn’t start anything,” Iris hisses, her eyes briefly bouncing towards me and away again. “We aren’t together anymore. You don’t have any reason to be in my apartment at this hour.”

He scoffs. “But he is?”

She shrugs, avoiding looking at me this time. “It doesn’t concern you. Just go. Do you realize what time it is?”

“Yeah.” He glances my way with a sneer. “Guess you really are sleeping through the teams, babe. Just so you know, he’s a puck fucker. He’s not going to treat you any differently than I did.”

I scoff as he turns to leave, narrowing my eyes. Now is not the time to get into a brawl, even if I’d love to after that. I’m not friendly with many of the football players for a reason. We really just don’t get along.

But right now, I need to not test things. I wonder if getting hit would turn me back into a vibrator? The rules really aren’t that clear.

Dylan hesitates, and I’m not sure who he’s waiting on. After a moment he throws up his hands, causing Iris to stiffen again. “Fine. Fuck you, babe.”

He storms out of the apartment, roughly slamming her door closed in his wake. Iris is across the room in seconds, a much fluffier and more modest robe in place of her silky one. She moves past me to the door, throwing the locks in place, including the chain lock near the top.

Then she pulls back and stares out the peephole, no words passing between us for several seconds. After a moment I catch the sound of stomping, but it fades, and a few seconds later she releases a deep breath and slumps into the frame.

I swivel my gaze between her and the door, turning to lean my arm against the wall and copy her. “So, does that usually happen, wallflower?”

She bares her teeth at me. “Did you let him in here?”

“Hardly,” I reply with a scoff, before thinking about why he was able to just waltz in here to begin with. “I left the door unlocked.”

She blinks slowly, her eyes narrowing. “Why?”

“So I could get back in.” When her eyebrows lift, I hold up my hands. “I just went for a walk! I’m waiting for this terrible night to end, just like you. I didn’t know your boyfriend would just show up and walk his ass in.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” she hisses, not for the first time. At this point, I just want to be under her skin.

“What do you think would’ve happened if he caught you riding my face?” I ask, tapping my chin. “Think his drunk ass would swing on me?”

She flinches, and it’s the kind of response I was looking for. Dylan didn’t do anything all that aggressive, even in his drunken state. But I’ve heard the rumors about how he treats his girlfriends. Iris digs her teeth into her lip like she knows what I’m thinking, and quickly shakes her head.

“I don’t know,” she answers honestly. “He didn’t ever do that—”

“Eat you out?” I ask, raising a brow.

“Sure,” she sighs. “That’s not part of his game. It’s more of a quickie.”

“So no pleasure,” I say dryly. “Got it.”

Iris’s cheeks color and she steps away from me with narrowed eyes. “It doesn’t matter. He shouldn’t be here at this hour, and you could’ve at least told me you were leaving—”

“And interrupt your shower?” I press. “I don’t have my phone or any of my other shit, so that’s out.”
