“You gon’ have to because I’m going back to work by the end of March."
Renovations on my barbershop and her salon were underway and were on track to be finished by mid-February. After that Juri would need a little over a month to do the interior decorating, so the end of March was a reasonable time for her to be back at work. I wasn’t sure if I wanted her to go back that soon, but it really wasn’t up to me.
“That’s no problem.”
“Please,” she giggled. “You know we’re going to have to send her to somebody’s daycare.”
“The hell she is. I’ll pay your mama or Granny to watch her before my baby who can’t even talk goes to somebody’s daycare.”
“Didn’t you say that you wouldn’t mind sending her to Benji and Juri’s people's daycare? I googled them and they have a 4.9 rating.”
I smacked my teeth. “I meant I wouldn’t mind sending her there when she’s a toddler. Preferably 3 or 4.”
“Four? She’ll be able to go Pre-K at a real school when she’s that age.”
“That sounds like a plan. Until then she’s at home with daddy,” I wrapped both of my arms around her and kissed her chunky little face.
“You’re crazy,” she giggled.
“About my baby? Damn right.” I was going to stand on that with no shame. The infant stage didn’t last forever. In fact, it flew by in a blink of an eye. My siblings had taught me that much. Therefore, I wanted to savor this whole year and enjoy my baby while she was still a baby. I was going to hold her until she learned how to walk, I was going to cuddle her any chance I got, I was going to feed her until she felt like holding her own bottle, and I was going to keep her at home until I felt like she was ready for daycare. She wouldn’t be ready within the next year. I wasn’t worried about shit Lourdes was saying because Alouri had her wrapped around her finger, too. She talked a good game, but only those who didn’t know any better would believe it.
“Okay, Armias,” she smirked. “Oh yea! Kiyor’s going to come over this weekend to take first month pictures of Louri. Let me show you the four different concepts and looks,” she smiled excitedly while picking up her phone. See? She was just as crazy as I was.
“That’s gon’ be nice,” I nodded as she scrolled through the different concepts. The first concept was a milk bath with pink roses, the second one was a princess dress and carriage, the third one was a spa day, and the last concept was a Hello Kitty tutu outfit surrounded by Hello Kitty teddy bears. I assumed she was going to take those right here in her room.
“But is a professional photoshoot necessary for one month?”
“With a face this beautiful? Of course it’s necessary. She’s going to do a photoshoot every month.”
“You gon’ have to keep that energy for our second baby.”
“Ain’t nobody thinking bout a second baby right now,” she snapped. “So don’t you get any ideas. My pussy not even fully healed yet and you talking bout me pushing out another one.”
“Calm down,” I laughed. “I didn’t say I was trying to go back to back. I just know we’ll have another one eventually and sometimes the second kid don’t get as much love as the first one.”
“Oh okay…” she suspiciously glared at me. “I never heard of that logic though. Was that the case in your household?”
“Not with Aspen because they waited damn near ten years to have a second child and she was a girl. But Aneesah came right after her and they didn’t even have a baby shower for her.”
“I can see why. It would have been a waste of money because they didn’t need anything new.”
“Yea, but I want all my kids to look back and see that we were equally excited for them individually.”
“I guess, but like I said, ain’t no babies coming out of me in the next three to four years.”
“That sounds like a perfect plan.”
“What?”
“Yea, that gives me time to propose.”
“Okay,” her cheekbones rose up. “That’s something I can get behind.”
“Right, and then we can have the wedding of your dreams.”
“My dreams? Am I marrying myself?”
“I’m just saying…I could care less about the details of a wedding. I’d be cool with eloping as long as we’re married.”
