“Denim, back up,” Lourdes giggled, as she stepped down next to me. Someone must have notified her of my presence and I was glad they had because I was about two seconds away from smacking Denim’s frail ass.
“Alright, I’m not too far away, though,” she stared me up and down, while backing away.
“Me either, best!” Dream chimed in. She’d stopped dancing, too, and was standing in the middle of the section with her arms crossed like she was ready to get it on. These bitches were doing the absolute most. They were acting like I ran up swinging on Lourdes or something.
“Trust me, I won’t be needing y’all,” Lourdes laughed, while glancing back at them. I immediately caught the shade. She was basically saying I was nothing she couldn’t handle by herself. I wasn’t worried about her or her false confidence. I’d drag her ass if need be and I’m sure she knew that.
Lourdes turned back to me with a bright smile. “What’s up, cousin?”
“You still tryna be funny, huh?”
She bursted into laughter. “What’s up with you thinking I’m a comedian tonight? I ain’t cracked one joke.”
“Girl, I know shade when I see it.”
“Then you must be on your Stevie Wonder shit because I haven’t thrown shade at you once. This is my first girls night out since having my daughter and I’m having a grand ole time. I’m not worrying about you, Lyss, but I must be on your mind heavy.”
“This is why it makes no sense to talk to you. You always play like you’re innocent and not doing anything.”
“You only feel like that because you be projecting your issues onto me,” she laughed.
“Lourdes, Granny already told me that she told you about Kenny.”
It was time to cut the shit and lay everything out on the table. If I didn’t she was going to keep pretending like she didn’t have a problem with me. When I invited Kenny over to my mom’s house on Christmas I was prepared for whatever backlash I was going to receive from Lourdes. Granny couldn’t hold water, so I expected her to run and tell everybody. But surprisingly, a whole month had gone by before she spilled the beans. I guess that tea was too much for her to run around repeating carelessly. When she finally did say something she called me and my mom to give us a heads up. That was about a week ago and still…Lourdes said or did nothing. I didn’t even get a shady IG post. And I was watching and waiting for the inevitable crash out! To my dismay, all she posted was two braggadocious photo dumps. The first one was a date night where she allegedly got a G-Wagon as a push gift. The second one was a lavish trip to Miami where she showed off a high rise hotel suite, a yacht day, a shopping spree at high fashion stores she never cared to shop at before, and pictures of her and Ali in coordinating pink fits. Nothing was posted in real time because she gave full recaps on her IG story. Apparently postpartum depression had gotten the best of her but her “man” had made it his mission to make her feel better. She was full of shit and just using any ole excuse to bleed Ali’s pockets. She was going to spend all that man’s money. Then again, there were rumors about his barbershops being a cover up and that he was really a drug dealing scammer. It made sense because his ex, Nazaria, was a well known scammer.
“Yea, Granny told me about that. So what’s up with you and him? Are y’all together?” She asked casually, throwing me all the way off.
“Yup, we are,” I answered hastily, while crossing my arms. Kenny and I weren’t necessarily official, but we were heading in that direction. A few weeks after I had the baby he stepped up big time. He started with stopping by to help me out and give me much needed breaks. Then he slowly but surely started moving his things into my place. Now he was at my house full time being a hands on daddy. I was scared that would change once Kayla had her baby, but it didn’t. Kayla had to move back with her mom because her money dried up. She couldn’t work at the strip club or make OF content while she was pregnant. Although Kenny participated in her maternity shoot and babyshower, he couldn’t afford to take care of her. Hell, he hadn't even chipped in on her baby shower. Now that she was homeless and broke she really couldn’t do a damn thing for him. I told her he’d only been using her for money and shelter, but she refused to listen to me. Now she was raising her baby on her own because Kenny was not involved. She had the audacity to be angry with me and she was constantly throwing subs at me on social media. It wasn’t my fault Kenny didn’t care about her son, whom she made his junior. That was a wild move considering he wasn’t even at the hospital nor did he sign the birth certificate. It had only been a week since she had Kenny Jr., but I didn’t foresee things changing and I was hoping they didn’t. From my point of view it was looking like he didn’t trust that the baby was his and I didn’t blame him. Kayla was extra friendly with her hot pocket.
“You don’t gotta get defensive,” she laughed. “I’m just asking a question.”
“I’m trying to see where you’re going with it, though.”
“Well I’m not trying to be funny if that’s what you’re thinking,” she smirked. “Kenny is my ex for a reason, so it is what it is. I ain’t losing no sleep.”
“Granny told me that you were shocked to hear about it, so you can kill the fake non-chalant shit.”
“Oh, trust and believe I was far from non-chalant when I first heard about it. I think anybody would be shocked to hear that their cousin was having threesomes with their ex and got pregnant.”
My heart dropped. “Threesomes? Who told you that?”
“It’s pretty easy to put two and two together, Lyss. I mean, you and your best friend got pregnant for him and there was no fall out. You were quick to jump to her defense when she came for me on IG.”
“She came for you…but you liked her maternity shoot pictures.”
“That’s what IG is for…to like people’s posts. As far as I knew, me and that girl didn’t have no beef. Now, I ain’t gon’ stunt like I wasn’t surprised to see Kenny in those pictures with her. But trust, I wasn’t trying to be funny,” she said mockingly.
“Well look, me and Kayla ain’t sharing shit. We not even friends anymore. I’m sure you been seeing the lil slangs she been throwing at me since she had her son.”
“No, I haven’t been seeing anything because I blocked both of y’all months ago,” she laughed. That’s when I remembered that I’d been watching her page from my burner accounts. I had several.
“So what’s up, Lyss? Why’d you come over here? Cause I swear, it’s no beef, baby.”
“You say that, yet you have me blocked on IG. Like, you obviously don’t fuck with me because of Kenny.”
“Girllll, I blocked you because you jumped to defend your best friend after she started some shit with me. You was being hella weird long before that, but that showed me how much you really don’t fuck with me. I didn’t even know Kenny was your baby daddy at that point, but when I found out, everything finally made sense.”
“What made sense?”
