“Command needs this intel right away,” he said, rifling through his pack before pulling out a handheld radio. “Helix is planning an attack on one of our training facilities. We'll need more information before we can determine which one.”

“Could it be Fairfield?” Sammy asked, taking advantage of Graves’s brief pause to catch his breath.

“No,” Graves shook his head, already working through the possibilities. “They’ll target somewhere closer to the border. Somewhere with more recruits.”

His expression hardened.

“If Helix wants to hurt Arca, they’ll go after the soldiers we haven’t had time to harden yet. Fresh recruits who are newly trained and green.”

“What can we do to help, sir?” I asked.

“Nothing yet.” Graves pulled the radio closer. “We'll wait for more intel and Command’s orders. But now that we finally have a lead on Warren Voss, they’re going to move fast.”

He keyed in the secure frequency and began entering a coded report.

“I’ll know more once this goes through,” he added. “Until then, we make camp here again for the night and head back to the outpost at first light.”

“While I handle this, go up to the tower, get something to eat, clean yourselves up…” His gaze shifted to me. “And Maeve…”

“Yes, sir?”

"Suck Hayes's cock. Make him cum at least once so he'll last longer than thirty seconds when we both fuck you tonight."

My mouth fell open at his audacity, but Graves had already turned his attention back to the radio as though he hadn’t just said something completely outrageous.

I scoffed.

Without looking up, he added, “That’s an order. You’re both dismissed.”

The bastard sounded far too pleased with himself.

Graves had this infuriating habit of slapping an order onto anything, delivering it in that flat captain’s tone, and apparently expecting me to obey like some wide-eyed recruit grateful for the privilege.

He could kiss my ass if he thought I was going to blindly follow every command like some submissive omega. I was an alpha. If he wanted obedience from me, he was going to have to work for it.

Sammy chuckled, saying something stupid, but I tuned him out, stalking away from both men and heading towards the tower. Before I reached it, a small pond appeared through the trees, moonlight shimmering across its glassy surface. It had to be the same one Grizzly used for his morning dip.

I crouched at the edge to refill my canteen, then rinsed the dirt and sweat from my hands and face. After hours of hiking beneath the weight of a full kit, every inch of me felt grimy and overheated. The thought of climbing into my cot like that was unbearable.

So I started stripping off my uniform.

By the time I dipped one foot into the cool water, Sammy came crashing through the brush.

He stopped dead. His eyes snapped to me, widened dramatically, then dropped to the ground so fast it was almost comical. Color flooded his cheeks.

“Shit. Sorry,” he muttered.

“Boy Scout, we’ve been over this. I’m not shy about my body. You can look all you want. It’s nothing special.”

Sammy scoffed as if I’d said something completely ridiculous.

“Oh, yes, it is,” he said.

The corner of my mouth lifted despite myself. I couldn’t resist messing with him.

“Is that so?” I asked. “All right, I’ll bite. What exactly is so special about it?”

He still refused to look up, apparently finding the dirt at his feet fascinating.
