“I hear I’m getting a niece,” Declan said.

“You are!” I said with a smile.

“That’s great!” he exclaimed with a smile that matched my own, etched across his face.

“How has Nol been today?” I asked.

“Actually, in a really good mood,” Declan said, and his brow wrinkled as he stared at me. “I guess that’s because of you and the baby, though. Allen asked him if he was sick.”

A big belly laugh erupted out of me. Nolan had a reputation for being so grumpy, but it made me all warm inside that the baby and I put him in such a good mood. I rubbed a hand across my stomach as I thought about the little girl growing inside that we would name in memory of both of our mothers.

“You’re the only person who can pull him from his shitty moods,” Declan said.

I gave him a perplexed look. “Thank you?”

He laughed. “It’s a good thing, Avs. You’re good for each other, I’m glad… I’m just glad my grouch of a brother found someone who tolerates him. Now tell me what you want for dinner, and I’ll make sure the cooks take care of it real good.”

I picked up the menu April laid down on the table. I scanned it briefly, not really looking because I knew it by heart at this point. I didn’t realize when I married the brewmaster just how much I would eat here.

I handed the menu back to Declan. “Just get me the grilled cheese, please.”

“On it!” he said, taking the menu with him and walking off back into the kitchen.

I was scrolling on my phone when I felt a presence sit down at the table across from me. My smile cracked my face when I saw my husband on the other side. He gave me a confused look. “Did Gemma bail on you?”

“Yup!”

A scowl crossed his face immediately.

I pointed a finger at him. “Stay out of it. It’s between her and me.”

He grunted his go-to response when he didn’t want to argue with me.

“I’m too tired to make dinner, so I came here instead.”

“Did you order yet?”

I nodded.

He flagged down April and asked her to help put in his order. A server that I didn’t recognize brought him over a beer immediately.

He asked a couple of times if it bothered me if he drank while I was pregnant, but it didn’t. He was a brewmaster; he needed to taste his beer. It would have been a ridiculous request for me to make. It was nice that he asked, though.

“What are you doing?” I asked him.

“Having dinner with my beautiful wife. How was work?”

“Fine. Are you gonna be here all night?”

He shrugged. “Maybe. We’re a little behind on production.”

I frowned. “Oh.”

“That’s why I’m taking my break now.”

We ate dinner together, and I listened to him vent about the problems with production and working on the new hefeweizen beer he wanted to release during the summer. My sister never called me back, which annoyed me. It bothered me way more than I was letting Nolan know.

On the way out, I made a pit stop at the bathroom before walking home, but when I came out, I was in tears.
