“Are you mad I invited Lizzie to your house this morning? I didn’t tell her about the pregnancy, and I keep on making excuses on why we can’t hang out.”
He put his hands on my shoulders. “Avery, listen to me. This is your house, too. We’re gonna get married and raise our kid here. I don’t mind. Got it?”
I nodded.
He groaned as he got up, and I bit my tongue before making an old man joke. He helped me off the floor, and we walked down the stairs and back into the kitchen together. Lizzie was unloading the bagel sandwiches onto plates at the table. She gave me a smile when she saw me.
I went over to her and hugged her. Her mom instincts must have told her I needed that. When I pulled away, she studied me. “Aw, you look so cute pregnant!”
I grumbled.
She laughed. “Oh, girl, you need to eat.”
I went over to the table and sat down next to Nolan. I took the first bite of my bagel and moaned. “Oh my god, I was kind of hungry.”
Nolan grinned at me, and Lizzie laughed.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me!” she exclaimed.
Nolan put a hand on my stomach. “We wanted to wait until we made it through the first trimester.”
I put my hand over his, and Lizzie gasped. “Oh my god! Are you getting married too?”
We nodded.
“Fucking finally.”
“What?” I asked while I shoved more carbs into my mouth.
Lizzie rolled her eyes. “It was pretty obvious you two were meant for each other.”
Nolan grunted next to me and finished his bagel. “Where are your keys?” he asked.
“On the hook,” I said through a mouthful of bagel.
He kissed my temple. “I’ll be back. I’ll find your mixer. Text me if you forgot anything else.”
I nodded, but as soon as the door slammed on his way out, Lizzie fixed me with a glare. “Spill!”
I swallowed my last bite. I gestured to my stomach. “Surprise? I’m pregnant?”
She rolled her eyes. “Yes, I can see that, but tell me everything. How did the thing with Nolan happen?”
I squinted at her. “Like when we conceived the baby?”
“Was that the first time?”
I shook my head.
“You’re such a liar!”
I scowled at her. “What do you mean?”
“Every time I said something about him, you got flustered. How long have you been fucking?”
“Occasionally.”
“How long?”
