I marched over to him and punched him in the arm.
He rubbed his arm. “Ow! Damn, you hit like a man.”
“No shit. Who do you think taught me how to punch? My dad’s Alain Desjardins.”
He grinned. “Okay, I guess I deserved that. You okay?”
I nodded. “I feel…closure?”
“That’s good. You weren’t lying when you said you didn’t have a lot of stuff; that didn’t take very long. We should have flown instead of driving.”
I shrugged. I hadn’t thought of that when we left this morning. I hadn’t been in the right frame of mind when Lisa demanded I get everything today. I was angry and hurt and wanted to be done with her. I should have known it was a ploy to get me back. If I had been thinking straight, I might have called in another favor from Nat instead of roping Benny into driving up with me today.
“It’s fine. We should probably find a hotel,” I said.
“I took care of it.”
I glared at him. “What?”
He grimaced. “But don’t get mad at me.”
“Why?”
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “They were full up. There’s only one bed.”
Chapter Fourteen
BENNY
I prepared myself for the worst. It didn’t surprise me when she glared and screeched, “What?”
“I’m sorry. Maybe I can find something else?”
She sighed and ran her hand through her hair in frustration. “It’s fine. We’ve slept in the same bed together before. We can handle it for one night.”
We let her sentence hang in the air. We both had to be thinking about our night together. It was getting harder for me to not stare at her lips and wonder why our mouths weren’t fused together. Or why I wasn’t inside her again.
I was such a horny bastard when I was around her.
“Okay. How about we get settled into the hotel?” I offered, trying to ease the tension.
She rubbed her hands down her arms because it was a little cold outside. I wanted to wrap my leather jacket around her, but I wasn’t trying to get my hand cut off.
She nodded. “Please. I need to get some work done. I also need to call this landlady back.”
“You found a place?”
She nodded. “Yeah, Fi helped me out, and I think I’m gonna take it.”
“That’s great!”
“It’s high time I got out of your hair.”
I didn’t want her out of my hair; I wanted her all up in my hair.
“Where?” I asked.
“Fishtown.”
