I gasped when Logan’s hand pressed against the small of my back and his lips were at my ear. “You look fine. Come on. Let’s go eat.”

My body vibrated from his touch, and I had to tell my libido to calm down. We were not going there. This was just dinner with a friend. An acquaintance, really. But one who had charmed the pants off my mother in two seconds flat. This had all sorts of bad ideas written over it, but when Logan gave me that smile, I stopped thinking about all the wrong things that could happen tonight.

This would be fine. We would enjoy each other’s company tonight, and that was it.

Right?

Chapter Thirteen

LOGAN

I smiled from over my glass of tequila as I watched Lily pore over the menu in front of her. We had ordered drinks, and she sipped on a margarita while she tried to decide. She looked cute, with her nose wrinkling as she thought.

Stop it, Logan. This is not a date.

The place was pretty upscale, though, and the dim lights made it romantic. But it was definitely not a date. Not at all. It was hard pretending it wasn’t when Lily looked so nice. She did something different with her hair tonight, and her face was done up like she was ready for a long night out. Her attire wasn’t that fancy — a simple pair of jeans, tank top, and a white plaid sweater. But it made me want to peel it off her later.

Not going there.

Even if I wanted to, I had a kid to get home to, and so did she.

She glanced up from the menu. “What are you going to get?”

I peered down at the menu. “Tacos?”

She laughed. “So boring!”

“What are you getting?”

Her cute little nose wrinkled again as she perused the menu. “I’m going to get the Mole Poblano.”

“I’m gonna get fish tacos. It’s probably the thing my nutritionist will get the least mad at me about.”

She tilted her head in question. “You have a nutritionist?”

Before I could answer, the server came over and asked if we were ready for our orders. Lily gave him a friendly smile as she ordered, and then I told him what I wanted. I’d rather have the enchiladas, but I had to be serious about my nutrition during the season. If I wanted to stay at the big show, I had to make sure I was careful with everything. That meant what I ate, what exercises I did, and my performance during games.

“So tell me about the nutritionist. I’ve seen Blaise wolf down a cheesesteak, so I’m confused.”

I laughed. That sounded like Blaise. “He’ll run five extra miles or eat those on cheat days.”

“Ah.”

She took a sip of her margarita, and the way the light hit her hair made her shine. Or maybe it was the smile that lit up her entire face and made her hazel eyes sparkle like amber. I had no business sitting here across the table from this gorgeous creature.

“How’s work?” I asked.

She took a huge sip of her drink.

“That bad?”

She sighed. “I need to find more clients. Or get a full-time gig. It’s tough. And…” she trailed off and shook her head. “You don’t want to know about this.”

“Sure I do.”

“Seth flaked on taking Rosie again last weekend.”

Red-hot anger flashed through me. “He’s done that before?”
