ME: Seth has a work thing and can’t take Rosie now.

He didn’t respond, so I tossed my phone back onto my bed and went to wake up Rosie from her nap. My sister had watched her while I worked today, but I couldn’t ask her to do an overnight, especially when it was her day off. That wasn’t fair to her.

Rosie was up and awake in her crib. She wasn’t taking long naps anymore, but she stayed in her crib until I got her.

“Okay, Rosie, change of plans. We’re not going to Daddy’s today.”

“Da-da!”

“Daddy has work. Okay? You get to hang out with Mommy tonight.”

I picked her up and changed her diaper. I walked with her in my arms into my room, where I heard my phone vibrating on the bed. I grabbed it, angling my head to hold the phone against my shoulder while Rosie was in my arms.

The person on the other line didn’t wait for me to answer. “Bring that sweet little baby to my place,” Veronica’s voice rang in my ear.

“What?”

“You and Logan deserve a night without the kids, so Blaise and I are gonna take them.”

I didn’t know what to say. Logan said he’d take care of everything, but I hadn’t expected this from a guy who only wanted me for sex. It was nice, though. Seth never would have done that.

“Girl, you need this. You and Logan could be good for each other,” Veronica said.

I don’t think Veronica got how much Logan and I just needed each other to scratch that itch. “It’s not like that,” I argued and jostled Rosie in my arms.

“Sure it’s not,” she said, and I could imagine her rolling her eyes at me.

Veronica confided in me that after Seth left, she had a ton of meaningless hookups. Blaise was the first man that made her want to love again. She was hopelessly in love with her blonde giant, and now she wanted everyone else in love too.

“V, we just need grown-up time. Nothing more,” I explained.

“That sounds fake, but okay!” she exclaimed. “I’m coming over to grab Rosie. Get ready for your date, okay?”

“Thanks, V. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Have a really boring life.”

I laughed. I hung up with her and got Rosie ready. “Okay, baby, you’re going to Uncle Blaise’s and Aunt V’s tonight! You’re gonna have so much fun with them.”

I got her dressed and put her on the floor with one of her toys while I packed an overnight bag for her. Blaise had already built a crib for their baby, so I didn’t have to worry about sending her over with the pack-and-play. Thank God Veronica and Blaise were prepared to take her overnight.

After packing everything up, the doorbell rang. That was quick.

I lifted Rosie in my arms and went downstairs. I opened the door and found Veronica behind it. Rosie shyly hid her face in my neck.

“Aw, baby, it’s just Aunt V!”

“Come on, sweet thing. We’re gonna have a sleepover with Liam tonight,” Veronica told her.

Rosie’s head lifted up at Liam’s name. The two spent so much time together that they were attached at the hip. It was so cute. “Liam?” she asked.

I nodded. “You’ll have so much fun tonight. Give Mommy a kiss.”

Rosie gave me a big sloppy kiss, and I laughed as I handed her off to Veronica. I helped her get all the stuff into her car, making sure the car seat was secured and Rosie was in there nice and tightly.

I kissed Rosie’s forehead. “Be good, okay, baby?”

I shut the car door and walked over to the driver’s side, where Veronica was behind the wheel. “Call me if there are any issues. I’m serious.”
