I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Not when we dried them off and laid Rosie down in her crib, or when Liam crawled in my lap while Logan read him a bedtime story. Especially not after we kissed both kids goodnight and shut the bedroom door.
This was how I had imagined my life with Seth. When I got pregnant, he reassured me he’d take care of everything. Then he wanted me to quit my job, urging me to take the time with the baby. I thought that meant he’d be my partner.
Logan stopped me before I headed into the living room. I gave him a questioning look, but then he cupped my face and captured me in a passionate kiss. A kiss that made my heart yell at me. I let myself get lost in him, in the feelings bubbling up inside me. If only for tonight.
After breaking the kiss, he pressed his forehead against mine. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. Kids don’t know how to tell us what’s wrong.”
“I was losing it. He’s been fighting me on everything lately.”
“He’s pushing boundaries. God, not looking forward to Rosie and the terrible twos.”
He shook his head. “She’s a little angel.”
I scoffed. “Not always.”
“Alright, gamer girl. Now that the kids are in bed, let’s break out Dragonspire.”
I couldn’t help the way he made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside at the joking comment. I was so down for a night of playing Dragonspire with my gaming buddy.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
LOGAN
“YES! YES! YES!” Lily exclaimed. Her hands flew across her game controller as we took down the dragon we had been working on for weeks.
She sat next to me on the couch, her console hooked up to an old TV I brought from my last place while I had mine hooked up to the bigger TV in the living room. On my screen, I watched our avatars take one last final blow to the dragon, then it flopped onto the ground, and we collected our loot.
After we got the kids to bed, we ate the rest of our dinner and chatted before setting up our consoles. Lily looked so cute in her Mario hoodie and leggings that hugged her perfect ass. I liked the casual look and how we felt so natural next to each other. It was so weird that she was Flower, and now she was playing beside me, like we did this all the time.
She set her controller down and frowned. “Shit. I hope I didn’t wake up the kids.”
I laughed and checked the baby monitor, but if Liam was up, he would have walked out here asking me to watch TV. So far, no sound from Rosie. “I think we’re okay.”
“This was fun. I needed a gaming sesh tonight.”
I grinned. “Me too. Not a boring date? You came over and helped me with childcare.”
She saved my ass with Liam tonight. He had been fighting me at mealtimes lately. Mari said he was testing my boundaries, that kids had a hard time communicating their needs. Sometimes I didn’t fight him and made the chicken nuggets he wanted instead. I was a pushover.
She shook her head. “It pains me to see him in tears.”
“I think he has us wrapped around his little finger.”
She laughed. “They both do.”
“We should go to Player Won again,” I suggested as I set my controller down and put a hand on her thigh.
Her face lit up with a smile. “We should! That was the best date.”
“Really?”
She nodded. “Yeah, because I got to kick your ass.”
“Oh, the girl’s got jokes!”
She gave me a sly smile. “Mmmhmm.”
