“All lies, I’m sure.”
Carson chuckles. “Lukas is one of the good ones. Shrewd businessman. And this”—Carson gestures to the man next to the Senator—“is Alex. My favorite Russian!”
Alex nods his head once. Russians aren’t known for their overly welcoming personalities, so I nod back, matching his energy and playing the part.
Carson gestures for me to sit down, introductions over. The door hisses open again, and a flame-haired woman with a tray of drinks appears. Carson leans in to speak to me directly. “The cargo arrived without issue. Offloaded and stored. Thank you.”
The weapons deal. Obviously, it was successful. The Agency doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to doing what it takes for the bigger picture.
“Good,” I say. “What’s next?”
He smiles and pours me a whiskey. “That’s what tonight’s about. We drink, we talk. There might be some fun opportunities to let you in on.”
I raise my glass, clinking it lightly against his. “Then let’s make it a night to remember.”
Chapter 30
Soren
I’m buzzed enough from the whiskies I’ve slammed back, but alcohol isn’t what’s making my head spin. I’m sitting in a den of vipers, wearing someone else’s skin. I should be laser-focused on the mission, but all I can think about is the one person I swore I’d try to stop thinking about.
“Lukas.” Carson’s hand lands on my forearm. “I want to extend an invitation to you.”
I raise a brow. “I’m listening.”
“In two weeks, I want you to come down to Miami. I’m chartering my yacht, and I want you to be my guest for the weekend. Little bit of business, a lot of pleasure.” Carson’s smile is pure oil. “There’s something I want to show you that you and your contacts might be interested in.”
“You can’t tell me now?”
Carson waves his hand in the air. “Tonight, we celebrate. Miami? We discuss business. You in?”
I smile. “Count me in.”
“Excellent!” Carson hollers. “Any requests? Anything at all, name it, and I’ll make sure it’s on board.”
This gives me an idea, and before I can think it through, the words tumble out of my mouth. I know exactly what I want.
“What about the girl?”
Carson’s eyes narrow. “Girl? Which one?”
“The one who danced for me when I met you last time. She wore the diamond spider web.”
“Ah.” The corner of his mouth pulls into a knowing smirk. “Angel.”
“Yeah. Her.”
There’s a beat as he considers my request. “I can arrange that. But she’s expensive.”
“Money’s no object.”
Carson’s about to reply when his gaze shifts over my shoulder, and something even more smug creeps into his smile. “Speak of the devil.”
I turn to see Raine—no, Angel—enter the room.
Fuck me, the devil really does wear latex.
Red latex.
