Felix appears behind me, causing me to turn around. His eyes are there, waiting for me to acknowledge him. Blood streaks across his face, his shirt completely soaked.

His forearms drip with blood, the tattoos barely visible.

“How are you here? Why are you here?” I ask.

“Because this is who he is,” interjects Vesper. “He’s a real-life Dracula, drinking the blood from his victims.”

“Yes. And I’m here to drink yours.” Felix flips the knife, pointing it under Vesper’s chin.

“You wouldn’t dare,” laughs my father. “Not when the nation already knows who you are. Killing me kills you.”

“And I’ll happily spend the rest of my life in prison to set your daughter free.”

I sneak a hand into my pocket, ending the recording.

This is over. Nobody is dying tonight, especially not Felix. And if there’s one thing worse than death, it’s spending the rest of your life behind bars serving time.

“Felix, no. Please don’t. We need to leave before anyone else gets hurt.”

“And your father goes back to causing more havoc.”

I catch his gaze, arching my eyebrow, telepathically communicating with him. He needs to know I have this under control. If we play our cards right, we can win.

“Don’t kill my father,” I beg as I raise my eyebrow higher, hoping he catches on.

Felix searches my face, his jaw clenching as he begins to understand.

Finally, he releases the knife and tucks it under his belt. “For Saskia.”

“A father and daughter bond is forever.”

Yes, until tomorrow morning when this voice note makes headlines.

EPILOGUE

SASKIA

My body thumps with adrenaline when we make it back to Felix’s place.

Fleur and I huddle together on the couch in the living area, discombobulated, watching Felix and his friend replay the voice note on my phone.

“Post it now, before sunrise.”

“What?”

“Time is of the essence,” says Felix, handing the phone back to me. “You have it all there as evidence, including him calling you a whore.”

Fleur sits up, blanket falling over her shoulders as she turns to me with an idea. “Post a tutorial with this as the voiceover.”

Felix snaps his fingers. “Bingo.”

I blink away the exhaustion, staring at the blank screen. My mind is swirling, still trying to comprehend how my father was willing to kill both of his daughters tonight.

On top of that, I’m in love with a Russian mafia lord. That throws a huge spanner in the works, and that’s before I even unpack the rest of it, like, how I’m pregnant with his child, which ties us together for life—because I’m positive I want to keep it.

Everything might be hazy right now, but when I think about the baby, giving it the life I never had myself as a child, the ambiguity fades. I know what I need to do to make everything fall into place.

I spend the next fifteen minutes putting together a tutorial, editing clips strategically under the voice note.
