I want to know what it feels like to be important, to mean the world to someone. Felix is the closest thing I’ve ever had to that.
I lose myself in his silver gaze. I see the authority in his eyes, but I also see something deeper, like cracks in his rough exterior are starting to show. The more I look, the more obvious the cracks become, and the closer I feel to him.
It’s like we have an unspoken understanding about something.
Felix holds my gaze, snaking his hand around the back of my neck, pulling me close. He takes his time, refusing to rush.
Slowly, he presses his lips to mine, sucking my bottom lip into his mouth.
A moan escapes my mouth as I sink into him, opening my mouth, receiving his tongue. He slides it lazily into my mouth, and I’m there to receive him.
Our breaths grow deeper, more aspirated, his hands shifting from the back of my neck to my chest.
I break the kiss, looking down, watching his finger locate my areola. He knows where my nipples are and I’m still wearing my uniform.
“Some things are worth ruining yourself for, sweetheart,” he whispers in my ear. His incandescent eyes find mine, and I fold, my knees giving way. “Here,” he says, skimming my lower back, “take a seat on the bed.”
I stumble back, my hamstring hitting the mattress.
“Careful,” moans Felix, his voice low and controlled. “You’re not allowed to ruin yourself. Only me.”
Desire forms a tight ball in the pit of my stomach. I clench my thighs together, my clit begging for his finger, his tongue. I need all of him, every muscle and inch. I want to be close to a man who cares deep down, even if he doesn’t show it on the surface.
I’m starting to see the intricacies, the cracks in the mask.
“Sometimes, I like to tune out the world and forget it exists.”
Why would he need to do that?
I shut my eyes, sighing deeply as Felix hooks his fingers under my chin, holding me in place as he peppers kisses along my jawline.
I sink into every single kiss, allowing the sensations to carry me away into another world.
“Your freckles remind me of the stars on a clear night,” he says, kissing the space around my nose. “And your mouth.” His voice becomes strained. “Fuck, Saskia, I could do some terrible things to you.”
“Then do them.”
He pushes my head back, searching my eyes. “Why? You were so in denial before. What’s changed?”
“You’re not the man everyone thinks you are.”
Felix grinds his jaw, like he doesn’t agree. “What do you mean?”
“Where are the photographs?”
“What?”
“Your family? Where are they? You have everything, and yet you’re all alone.” I feel my mouth gape open, the answer coming straight to me, knocking me off center. “You push people away…”
I shuffle back on the bed, away from his grasp. What the hell am I doing?
Someone shows me the tiniest bit of affection, and I put my heart in the palm of their hand—letting them use me.
Felix stares at me, muscles flexing in his jaw. “You have no right to ask about my family.”
Fair point. If the shoe was on the other foot, I’d be pissed too. That explains our unspoken understanding. It turns out I’m not the only one who is broken.
I rise from the bed, leaving before he walks away first.
