And to leave the country, period.
My heart beats out of my chest at the thought of spending more time with Felix, and maybe figure him out a little more.
Maybe if we’re both looking for freedom, there’s a chance we both might actually find it. Together.

SASKIA
“Champagne, Miss?” asks the attendant when the seatbelt sign goes off.
I glance up, totally caught off guard. The attendant holds a vintage bottle. I know the type. My father used to drink it.
“Uh, no, thanks.”
“More for me.” Felix winks across from me, kicking up his feet in his own suite.
I’m still trying to get the hang of the recliner, searching for the knob.
“It’s touchscreen,” says Felix, watching me struggle. “Right there below the armrest. Drag the arrow across, depending how far back you want to go.” His eyes linger, cutting through me like ice. “You like being on your back, right?”
“Right…” I stutter, the seat reclining, like I’m at the dentist.
I make use of the amenities, grabbing the blanket, scrolling through entertainment options on my TV.
Feeling a pair of eyes watching me, I turn, locking gazes with Felix. He goes on watching me intently.
“First time?”
“Not everyone can afford to travel in style.”
“Hm,” he says, returning to his book.
I glance over, trying to see what he’s reading. Felix has never struck me as the kind of guy who reads books for pleasure. Emails and contracts are different. But works of fiction?
“You look like you’re getting your teeth into something exciting.”
“What’s that?” says Felix, glancing up.
“The book. What is it?”
He flips the cover around. “Calculus.”
Thrilling…
I settle back into my seat. Perhaps I made a mistake turning down the champagne. I need something to settle my nerves, take the edge off. The coffee I drank at the airport has made my anxiety worse, and now my bowels are active from the caffeine and nerves.
Never a good combo.
“I’m still trying to figure out why you invited me on this trip.”
“What’s there to figure out?” Felix closes the book, taking a sip of complimentary champagne. “We have good sex, we enjoy each other’s company… occasionally.”
“But there’ll be cameras.” I fold my arms over my chest. “What sort of narrative are you trying to create here?”
“One that will work in your favor.” Felix flashes me a wink across the aisle. “Besides, who says I’m doing this to create a narrative?”
“Your life is a book thousands of people read.”
