Kostya shrugged and started talking. “The Kraken have been hired for another job. They’re due to meet their new employers to get the information on the assignment and a partial payment tonight. It’s a big enough payout that we know Frank Sykes will be there.”
“Who is it?”
“Marty Davis.”
“The tech billionaire?” Landon asked.
Gideon nodded. “He’s an old friend. He’s not going to be there, but he was willing to set it up so Frank would know it was legit. He was cagey about what the job was, but that it was worth thirty million, and required Kraken’s skillset. He wouldn’t explain everything without a face-to-face.”
“Where?” Linc asked.
“Marty has a newly constructed high rise in Trenton. They’re due to meet tomorrow at three o’clock. Total privacy.”
“Snipers?” Linc asked.
“Nope.”
“Marty said to come alone, but fat chance of that happening. Since it’s on the top floor, the elevator has to be unlocked to allow access. Also, at the reception desk are monitors that show the occupants of the elevators so the receptionist can view who is coming up to the top floor.”
“I want him,” Ryker said.
Kostya nodded. “I figured as much.”
“Shit!” Gideon shouted the next day as they pulled into the underground garage for the building. It was eleven o’clock in the morning and they wanted to arrive early. They had to go down to the third level to find a parking space. He pulled out his cell phone.
“Marty, it’s Gideon. The building is packed. What’s going on?”
There was a pause.
“Yeah, well call me back.”
Gideon turned to the others in the car. “He’s going to find out what’s going on and get back to us.”
“If I were Kraken, I would have come early, and I would have taken advantage of all these people to blend in,” Landon said.
Ryker was too pissed to even bust Landon’s balls for pointing out the obvious.
“You’re right,” Linc said.
Kostya had pulled up in the parking spot beside them. He called Linc. Linc put him on speaker.
“So?”
“Marty’s getting back to me to find out why the office building is so full.”
“What do you think? Should we abort the mission?” Kostya asked Gideon.
“I don’t want to drag Marty into another round of this. If we abort, then I need to come up with another way to get at Kraken,” Gideon answered.
“Then we don’t abort,” Kostya stated.
“Good,” Nolan and Ryker said simultaneously.
Gideon’s phone rang. He put it on speaker. “Yeah?”
“It’s sales. They started a week early. They are on the fifth, sixth and seventh floors. The executive floor is the eleventh. You’re good,” Marty said.
Gideon rolled his eyes.
