“Bernie,” I growl. “Tell me where you are so that I can ease Trenda’s mind.”
“How about if me and my lady friend come over for a visit?”
“When?”
“In the next hour.”
I relax. “That would be perfect. I’ll call her and tell her you’re coming.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m finishing up some things in Nashville. I should be there in two hours.”
“Gotcha. We’ll still be around when you show up. I’ll barbeque.”
“Sounds good.”
I smile when we disconnect. Bernie sneaked away for a bootie call and that makes me happy.
I hit the Bluetooth again and call Trenda’s number. It goes straight to voicemail.
That’s odd.
I call Aiden.
“Hey, Simon,” he answers.
“Trenda isn’t answering her phone, is everything okay?” I ask.
“She’s down with a migraine. According to Evie, it’s a bad one.”
“Did she take her medicine?” I ask.
“That’s another thing, she’s never been in to see a doctor about them, so she doesn’t have any medication beyond ibuprofen.”
My hands hurt, and I realize I’ve got my steering wheel in a death grip.
“What do you mean she’s never been to a doctor about them?”
“Don’t shoot the messenger,” he chuckles. “Protective much?”
I relax my fingers. “Aren’t there shots for them?”
“Pretty sure,” Aiden says.
“Let me call you back.”
I call Bernie back. Even being a mountain man, the man is hooked into the town network. If anyone would know a doctor who does house calls, he would be the one.
I moan as I roll over.
“Hold on, let me get you some water.”
I’m pretty sure I’ll have to pull a wad of cotton out of my mouth before I can drink any water.
“Here, Honey, drink this.”
Simon lifts me up just a little, and a spike goes through my head. I moan again.
