She twisted around to pick up a Lego, giving him a nice side view of Bonnie, and all thoughts of her wardrobe left his head.
Curves. I love women with curves.
He spotted her small suitcase.
“I tell you, one of these days I’m going to kill myself on one of Lachlan’s Legos.”
“Bonnie—” Jase started, and her head shot up, her gaze penetrating.
“What’s wrong?”
“How do you know something’s wrong?”
“Call it a mom’s intuition. Spill it, Drakos.”
“My team has been called to base.”
She took a deep breath. “This isn’t a drill, is it?”
“Nope.”
“When do you have to be there?”
“As long as it takes to get to my house, change my clothes, grab my go-bag and drive my truck to base.”
“And you don’t know how long you’ll be gone, do you?”
He shook his head as he continued to stare at her.
She nodded. “Okay. I know this is part of the drill. The timing sucks, but I’m sure there are other members of your team who are in more delicate situations who think it sucks even more.” She gave him her crooked smile.
Adorable.
Jase opened his arms. “Come here. I need a kiss.”
“Yippee, since the kids aren’t here, I get tongue action!” Bonnie grinned as she practically danced over to him and wound her arms around his neck.
Yeah, leaving her is going to kill.

“Bloody hell, fuck!”
Shit, Mateo almost sounded like his brother Renzo when he swore.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Jonas Wulff yelled.
Another shot hit the Mercedes G-Wagen. They were pinned down. “Who are these jokers? And just how many are there?” Jase shouted out his question to any of his team who might know the answer.
“I think it’s just one sniper and one man with an assault rifle,” Tanner Robb answered Jase. He needed to yell above the din of gunfire.
There were too many civilians. Why in the hell would they be firing at them in such a crowded area? It didn’t make sense. This was the reason they’d asked for a public meet, for fuck’s sake.
“I’ve got a bead on the guy with the AK,” Tanner said. He was now beneath the Mercedes.
Fuck, the shot’s going to have to be perfect not to hit an innocent. Why in the hell are so many people still in the line of fire? Why haven’t they hit the concrete or run away? Don’t they have any sense of self-preservation?
“Too damn many civilians.” Jase heard the disgust in his man’s mouth. Tanner was one of the best snipers on the Omega Sky team and being stuck with just a pistol had to be maddening. But Jase trusted him with his life.
