The first touch of his mouth was delicate. A featherlike brush. His lips gliding over mine without taking them, as if he was preparing to feel me.

Then the tip of his tongue brushed mine. “Just like this,” he whispered before covering my mouth with his. We stilled. His open mouth skimmed mine. The pulsing between my legs grew more insistent, verging on painful.

Another lick. A tug of my hair. A torturous sound fell from his lips before they seized mine, licking and tasting. I followed his lead, sliding my tongue against his. He fisted my hair, holding my head in place as we licked and explored, pulling away and diving back in.

His mouth lay a wet trail down my neck. My head fell back, giving him better access to my throat. His palm on my hip squeezed as he bit me gently.

Another kiss. His lips on mine, our tongues brushing. “See,” he rasped against my mouth, “can’t resist you, no matter how hard I try.”

I slipped my hands under his coat, splayed my fingers over the hard expanse of his chest. “Then don’t.”

“Won’t,” he said. His thumb hitched higher, touching me above the waistband of my jeans. My bare skin sparked in response.

As I feathered my lips over his jaw, footsteps thumped behind the door. We sprang apart.

“Guess I’m gonna make that coffee myself,” Manu said.

Alejandro groaned. “Joder, el café.” Fuck, the coffee.

I stifled a laugh. He caught my hand, then brought it to his mouth and gave my fingers a playful bite, sending another jolt of heat to my center.

“I’ll make it fast. Then you’ll be mine.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Nova

November

The fire crackled in the living room fireplace. Above it, a Spanish comedy about four friends trapped in a snowstorm played on a huge flat screen. Manu had turned on the English subtitles for me, but I was barely watching. Alejandro was too distracting.

He was hugging me in a plush armchair under a fluffy throw. If anyone wondered about our sudden closeness, they were tactful enough not to comment, though I’d caught Manu smirking a few times.

“Getting trapped here for a week or so would be fun, right, Cami?” he asked, ruffling Camila’s hair.

She chuckled into her hot chocolate. “Don’t tempt me. I could probably call in sick.”

“Or we could get married tomorrow and start the honeymoon sooner.”

“Ours was amazing,” Raquel said from the leather couch where she sat with Dani. “The sun, the beach. Nowhere better than Costa Rica to enjoy each other.”

“It’s on your travel Pinterest board,” Alejandro whispered in my ear.

“Didn’t think you’d remember,” I murmured.

His warm palm slipped under my sweater and settled against my stomach. My core clenched, heat flooding me. “Where in Costa Rica would you go if you could choose anywhere?”

His thumb glided over my belly button. I shifted, sinking into him further. “Why do you want to know?”

“Curiosity.” His warm breath tickled my ear. He moved his fingers lower. Dangerous. So reckless. My breath hitched.

I pressed my thighs together. “Santa Teresa looks amazing.”

He hummed, continuing the caresses. Every inch of my skin awakened under his fingertips. It’d never happened to me. I’d never craved a man’s touch so much, either. After my disastrous first time, I should’ve known sex wouldn’t get any better, but I’d clung to silly hope. Then hope became reluctance. Later, indifference.

Warm lips skimmed the back of my neck. I curled my hand around Alejandro’s knee, squeezing. “Ale…we can’t.”

Everyone was laughing, too engrossed in the movie, but I couldn’t risk it.
