“You okay?” she asked.

“Perfect,” he lied.

Chris tapped the bar to get their attention. “Tempest wants everyone outside in five.”

Moon grabbed her bag, and Chris turned to leave. “Christmas.” She stopped, and Moon hesitated. “Be careful.”

Chris's expression softened. “I always am.”

“No, you're not,” Moon said. Mayhem laughed, and Chris flipped him off, and then she looked back at Moon.

“I'll be fine,” she assured.

Chrome's voice came from behind her. “Yeah.”

Chris glanced at him. “You know something I don't?”

“No,” Chrome said.

“Then why'd you say it like that?” she asked.

“Because you're not dying tonight,” he insisted. Her expression changed. Mayhem watched it happen. It was just a flicker of something vulnerable, but then Chris covered it.

“Wasn't planning on it.”

Chrome nodded. “Good.” He walked away, and Christmas watched him, only for a second before she caught Mayhem looking at her.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” he whispered.

“Your face says it’s something,” Chris insisted.

“My face is naturally expressive,” he said.

“Your face is naturally annoying.” Moon laughed, and Mayhem grinned. Chris pointed at him. “Five minutes.” Then she left.

Mayhem waited until she was gone before he leaned into Moon. “They are definitely going to be a problem.”

Moon zipped her bag. “Leave them alone.”

“I'm not doing anything,” he insisted.

“You're thinking about causing trouble,” she accused.

“Thinking about causing trouble isn't illegal,” he insisted.

“Yet,” Moon said. Mayhem stood, and Moon immediately put a hand against his chest. “Dizzy?”

“No.”

“Are you nauseous?” she asked.

“No,” he insisted.

“Any numbness?” she asked.

Mayhem sighed. “It’s gone.”
