Chrome leaned over the map. “That's West Virginia.”
Moon nodded, and Chris stared at the map. “I knew it.”
“How?” Tempest asked.
“I don't know.” Mayhem looked at the route. There were mountains, back roads, and a lot of isolated territory. It was the perfect place to hide a wolf pack nobody was supposed to know existed.
“How far away is it?” Tempest asked.
Chris checked. “A few hours—maybe more.”
Moon looked at Mayhem. He knew exactly what she was thinking. “You're riding in the SUV,” she said.
Chrome looked over at him, and he started laughing. Mayhem glared at him. “Fuck you.”
Chrome laughed harder. “Silverfang VP riding bitch in a cage.”
“I'm injured,” Mayhem said.
“That somehow makes it better,” Chrome teased.
Moon crossed her arms over her chest. “He can't ride a bike.”
Chrome wiped his eyes. “I know.”
Mayhem pointed at him. “You get stabbed with silver and infected with ancient wolf poison, and I'm laughing my ass off.”
Chris tossed Chrome a set of keys. “You're driving the SUV.”
His laughter stopped. “What?” Mayhem smiled. Oh, this was getting better. Chris nodded toward the SUV.
“Moon needs to stay close to Mayhem. Tempest and Howler are riding. I'm navigating.”
“Why am I driving?” Chrome asked.
“Because I'm VP, and I say you’re driving the fucking SUV,” Chris said.
“You’re not my VP,” Chrome said.
Chris smiled. “Want to walk?”
Chrome stared at her and Mayhem laughed. “Looks like we're both riding in the cage.” Chrome muttered something obscene, and Chris looked pleased. Mayhem decided Christmas was definitely his favorite Dark Chaos member after Moon.
Twenty minutes later, they were moving. Tempest and Howler led on their bikes. Red and Blue followed. The SUV came behind them, and Chrome drove. Chris sat in the passenger seat, and Moon and Mayhem occupied the back. Mayhem had expected the ride to be uncomfortable, but he hadn't expected Moon to force him to lie down.
“This is humiliating,” he grumbled.
“You need rest,” Moon insisted.
“I'm a grown man,” Mayhem challenged.
“Debatable,” Chris said from the front.
Mayhem glared at the back of her head, and Chrome chuckled. “You shut up too.”
Moon pushed Mayhem's shoulder. “Down.”
He stretched across the back seat as Moon sat beside him. His head ended up in her lap, and Mayhem looked up at her. “Well,” he breathed.
