And her heart wanted Silas.

After one last squeeze, he set her down, but neither of them attempted to separate, their arms still looped around each other. Though he was smiling in his subtle way, the bit of tension in between his eyebrows said her lack of a response worried him.

So she pulled him down by his shoulders, lifted her heels, and tilted her head. The instant their lips met, he made a desperate grunt of pleasure that thrilled her. She poured every ounce of yearning she felt into the kiss, slanting her mouth over his with passion, burying her fingers in his hair and clenching it in her fist.

He yanked her against him, pressing his hardening cock into her belly, and devoured her lips, both of them panting and moaning and doing their best to crawl into each other’s skin.

She realized they had to stop when he pressed her back against the side of his car, having walked her backward without her noticing.

If they continued to make out, she doubted either of them would have the willpower not to fuck on the hood.

Alice turned her head, breaking the seal of their lips, but Silas continued kissing her neck, his hot breaths washing over her skin, his hands sneaking into her jacket to cup her breasts.

She ended up having to pull his head up by his hair, forcing it back. “Let’s stop here,” she gasped.

Silas stared down at her, lightly panting, brow pinched, jaw tight.

“W-we don’t want to miss sunset,” she reminded him, letting go of his hair.

Exhaling slowly, he moved back until they were no longer touching, but he kept her where she stood, his hands braced on the car to either side of her. For a long moment, he regarded her in silence.

“W-why are you looking at me like that?” she asked when she could no longer stand it.

“I’m wondering how much edging it’ll take to make you cry.”

Her eyes widened, and her heart began pounding. Heat rushed to her face.

Silas leaned in until his mouth hovered just over hers. “Think about that the next time you start something you don’t intend to finish.”

Chapter Thirty

Silas

The short drive back to the Nest was relatively quiet, not counting the music playing at low volume on the radio, their only exchange consisting of him asking to lower the windows and her giving permission.

He was driving at a sedate speed, so the brisk air that blew in wasn’t so much a slap but an icy caress that he hoped would cool him down, both literally and figuratively. His groin ached so much that he was sweating.

Would she kiss him like that if she didn’t want to be his mate? He couldn’t fathom that she would, only that she still seemed afraid of making the wrong choice and, as a consequence, getting hurt.

He wanted to be thinking about how else he could show his devotion, but his territorial instincts were becoming harder to deny. All he could think about was pinning her down and denying her next orgasm until she agreed to be his.

That Alice kept shifting in her seat didn’t help.

Thankfully, by the time he pulled through the gate into the Nest, the crisp breeze had done its job of cooling his ardor, at least enough that his erection subsided and his stranglehold on the steering wheel loosened. With the touch of a button, he raised the windows.

“What kind of drink can I make for you?” he asked her as they neared the underground garage entrance of his building.

“Anything but tequila,” she replied. “I had the worst hangover of my life after too many tequila sunrises, and now I can’t stand the smell.”

He winced in sympathy. “Got it, no tequila. How does a mojito sound?”

“That works. I love mint. Does your kind get hungover?”

“Not easily, but I’ve managed it.”

Her small snicker made him smile.

The car smoothly descended the ramp into the underground garage. Once inside, he glanced in the direction of the elevator, expecting to see Bruno waiting for them.
