“Let’s go home,” I sigh. “I need a nap before practice and possibly a slice of pizza to cancel out the fishy taste of the garum.”
“Would you save me a slice?” Talia asks. “I have somewhere I need to be.”
That comes as news to me. I know for a fact that she doesn’t have to work today. “Can I give you a ride anywhere?”
“Thank you, but Sam is picking me up from here. I’ll send you both a link later, so you can see where I’m going. Enjoy your nap and don’t eat all the pizza,” she winks before leaving.
Now, I’m not a controlling boyfriend, but my interest is peaked.
“Do you know what that was about?” Becks frowns.
“Your guess is as good as mine, bro.” I shrug. “I guess we’re going to have to wait and see.”
CHAPTER 23
A HEALTHY DOSE OF KARMA
Talia
The Zeta House door unlocks for Sam. I miss Giovanni’s warm, personalized greetings.
“After you, my lady,” she jokes, and I step into the house I used to call home just a couple of weeks ago.
“Is everything ready?” I’d be lying if I said that I’m not feeling a little anxious about what we have planned.
Sam knows me too well not to pick up on my worry. “It’ll be fine,” she squeezes my hand to comfort me. “Carissa has all the sisters gathered in the dining room for an emergency meeting. And Giovanni is recording everything in audio and video and sending the live feed to the Dean’s office and the sheriff. We also forwarded it to everyone else you requested.”
“Great,” I sigh, about to open the dining-room door. “Do you think she knows?”
Sam rolls her eyes. “Please. Her minions will have texted her the second Carissa announced the meeting. I bet every cent in my bank account that Gen is on her way here as we speak.”
“Does it make me a petty bitch if I hope we ruined the massage she was going to get after class?”
My best friend shakes her head. “After all the shitty things Gen has done to you? That just makes you human. What’s about to go down is nothing but a healthy dose of karma.”
It’s true. Gen has more than earned every single consequence that’s about to rain down on her tonight.
The excited chatter in the living room comes to a sudden halt the second we walk through the door.
All eyes are on me; every single one of my former sisters is looking at me with poorly disguised curiosity.
“Excuse me?” Olivia, one of Gen’s minions and Zeta treasurer, challenges us. “What is she doing here?”
“I invited her,” Sam bites out.
Carissa joins us. “Me too.”
“Whatever,” Olivia glares at me as if I wear the scum stuck to the bottom of her shoe. “If Talia is here to hang out with you, she can come back later. Meetings are reserved for sisters, and since she’s no longer a Zeta…”
“I agree,” Madison, the other minion, backs her. “And by the way, what is this meeting about? This is highly irregular. And where the hell is Gen?”
As if summoned by her friend, Genevieve enters the room. “What the fuck is going on?” She barks. “Why did I get a text while I was in the middle of my massage that there was a Zeta meeting?”
“Oh, look,” Sam snorts. “We didn’t even have to say her name three times in front of a mirror to get Gen to appear. I assume one of you called her?”
Gen ignores Sam’s dig. “Of course, they called me.” She snaps. “This better be a surprise party and there better be presents. If not, whoever pulled this prank will have to reimburse me for the very expensive massage they interrupted.”
“This isn’t a surprise party,” kudos to Sam for not gloating when she says that. “We have some extremely important things to address. And it’s urgent.”
