“Why the fuck are you calling me at this hour? Is Sienna okay?” Roy grumbles from the other side of the phone.
If I wasn’t already so agitated by someone else, I would have made fun of him.
But I don’t have time for theatrics right now.
“She’s fine,” I tell him honestly. “But she won’t be if you don’t work fast.”
I hear the sound of his bed sheets moving and I really hate to imagine anything explicit at the moment.
Even if he was doing anything, I would be happy to cock-block him one time.
A revenge for all those times he came in between my sweet time with Sienna.
“What do you mean?”
“Myra. We never should have involved her in this matter. She was about to spill everything to her. But instead she chose to plant doubt in Sienna’s mind. I can’t let that happen, Roy.”
“Why don’t you tell her before Myra or anyone else does? You know we are always in the news. You wouldn’t want anyone non-related to get hands on this and blow it out of proportion. Myra can be vicious, and you know it.”
Oh, I do. I know it better than anyone.
I trained her to be vicious, and it turns out I was feeding a snake all this while.
She has no reason—absolutely none to interfere in my happiness this way.
Call it love or obsession—I don’t care. But I would pick Sienna over anyone, anything, and any reasoning in a heartbeat.
No questions asked.
And I will ruin anyone who comes in our way.
“I will,” I bite out. “I won’t hide the truth from her. But the truth won’t just hurt her—it will shatter her, and I cannot afford that at the moment.”
“The accident happened years ago, and none of you, her, or your parents were at fault. And if they were, we will never know. So why?”
“Do you not know her, Roy?’
I take in a deep breath, my own eyes stinging with unshed tears.
I like to believe the truth doesn’t hurt me. But in reality it does.
Not only did the universe take away my only family.
It took away hers too. And then they had the audacity to bind us with it in this disgusting way—as if we are a joke.
But I won’t let their games destroy us.
I just won’t.
“Sienna loved her parents. Not having them in their life shatters her to this day. Losing me will destroy her, and after what shit Myra has put in her mind, she will blame herself for it, and I cannot let it happen.”
“You can’t take the truth to the grave, Dom,” he says, his voice desperate. “You lost your parents too.”
I gulp down my pain.
“I will if I have to.”
A beat of silence passes where none of us speak.
