Finally this chapter of my life is closed. And suddenly my heart feels lighter. Though the weight of leaving Dominic, of thinking what he might be thinking right now, still lingers at the back of my mind.
I clutch my stuff to my chest and make my way to my hotel.
It’s when I have taken a turn towards the end of my building when I hear that familiar voice I had been trying to forget and hate since yesterday.
* * *
“Done running away from me, baby?”
My entire body freezes. I know that voice. I have stayed awake listening to it. I fell in love with it. I could recognize it anywhere. I slowly turn around, hoping it’s not who I think it is.
Dominic stands a few feet away from me, looking like he hasn’t slept in days.
His hair is a mess. His shirt is wrinkled. His eyes are tired.
But he’s here. Like a dream come true. Like they do in movies.
My heart gives one stupid, painful beat, and I scold it internally.
“What are you doing here?”
He takes a step toward me.
“Taking my girlfriend and my soon-to-be wife back home.”
I stare at him dumbfounded. He has to be joking.
“You have a lot of nerve,” I glare at him.
“I know.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you.” I turn away, not before taking one look at his face.
God, I love his handsome face.
His jaw tightens. “Sienna—”
“No.” I shake my head. “I’m not going back.”
He stops in front of me.
“Then tell me what I need to do.” His voice comes out all pleading, making the crack in my heart deepen.
I laugh, but there is no humor in it.
“You still don’t get it.”
“I think I do.”
“No, you don’t,” I almost yell. My voice cracks at the end, and I hate that it does.
“You think this is about you making some mistake and apologizing for it. You think if you come all the way here, say the right things, and look at me like that, I’ll just forget what happened.”
“I don’t expect you to forget—”
“Then what do you expect?” I cut him off, my patience wearing thin.
He looks at me for a moment, his eyes raking over me like he’s seeing me for the first time.
