“No, I knew that you were going to work with him, but I didn’t know that you were going to work just with him in person. That’s so hot.”
I scoffed. “You say that because you’ve never met him. He has this incredible quality of getting on your nerves within five minutes of talking. He has this very annoying aura, like he owns the world and every room he walks into—”
“That’s because he does,” she interrupts.
I roll my eyes. Maybe he does. But he doesn’t own my world.
“Whatever. Nothing is going to happen the way your mind is imagining.”
“How do you know what I’m thinking?”
“Because you’re my sister.” I put my arm around her, and she makes an annoying face, which makes her look so freaking cute. She is still my baby sister.
She has grown into this confident, beautiful woman. She still manages to annoy me but in better ways now.
“Don’t change the subject.”
“What’s the subject?”
“Dominic, duh,” she says, rolling her eyes. “See, I am not saying do anything unprofessional with him. We are Hayes. Won’t do that shit.”
“Yes,” I agree. I sometimes forget the power that’s associated with my last name. Maybe because even when my parents were alive, they didn’t spoil me like a rich brat. And neither did my aunt and uncle.
“But he is single and hot and I would assume loyal too. And did I mention he is hot?”
“Yes, multiple times. If I didn’t know how gay you were for your girlfriend, then I would assume you are into him.”
“Not even the gayness in me can be repelled by his looks, Sienna.”
I cover my face as I laugh like a hyena. What the hell?
“But seriously,” she looks at me, pulling away my hands covering my face. “I think you should be open to it. If something happens.”
“I have a boyfriend, Laura,” I remind her. She seems to forget that a lot.
“You and I both know that’s just for namesake. It’s time you break up with him and move on to bigger and better things.”
“So everyone keeps telling me,” I tell her.
My phone buzzes in my lap, and I pick it up, thinking that maybe my namesake boyfriend, who will be arriving soon, might have texted me.
Instead it is the devil himself.
Dominic: Where are we meeting tomorrow?
I side-eye Laura, and she tries to pretend that she isn’t peeking into my phone, but I know she already saw the text.
She has a comical grin on her face which makes this situation funny.
Me: Is this the time to text someone you’re working with, Mr. Wolfe?
“Buzz kill,” Laura sings before stuffing her face with another spoonful of ice cream. At this rate she’s going to fall sick.
“Stop eating that.” I snatch the tub from her hand. “And stop peeking.”
“You’re no fun. You will bore Mr. Wolfe to death.”
Dominic: I thought texting late was our thing.
