I am mildly offended that she did not change in front of me because I would have liked that show. But I know better than to bring it up in front of her. She will kill me if I tease her right now.
“Roy and Myra will be there,” I say. Myra won’t be any help to her, but a familiar face still helps. And she already gets along with Roy.
“Oh, that’s great,” she says, a happy smile on her face as she comes in front of me and gives me a twirl. “I like Roy. He is fun to be around.”
I scoff, pulling her closer to me by the waist. She wasn’t that pleased when I told her I would keep her company.
“You weren’t this excited when I told you I would keep you company,” I taunt. “Roy isn’t even that fun.”
She narrows her eyes playfully, and I just know what will come out of her mouth will most likely piss me off.
“Don’t be offended,” she says. “But Roy is a much better company than you are. He is funny.”
I roll my eyes. Is it time to fire Roy? Probably.
I pull away from her unhappily, and she giggles. She likes doing this, I know.
“You are lucky that I love you.”
“That I am,” she says before moving to do her makeup.
My phone rings at the exact moment, and the fucker Roy’s name flashes on the screen.
“What?” I ask, my tone way less harsher than I wanted.
“Who pissed you off?” he asks instead of answering my question.
“You did,” I say casually. “Why did you call? I don’t have time to waste.”
“Well, I am glad I pissed you off just by existing. That’s the whole point I was sent on this planet.”
I roll my eyes at his stupid answer. Why am I friends with him again?
“Don’t waste my time, asshole. Tell me, what is it?”
“I am waiting for you and Sienna downstairs. Come quickly.”
“We are not going with you,” I tell him.
No fucking way am I going to the event with him. I will drive myself if I have to, but I cannot tolerate both of them being a menace together.
“Is it Roy?” Sienna asks, dropping her gloss on the table, and I finally take a good look at her.
I nearly lose my breath when she turns around. Her face glows in the soft light of the room, and I have to clear my throat to be able to speak again.
“Yes,” my voice comes out hoarse.
She takes my phone from my hand, and I don’t even resist, too caught up in looking at her.
“Hi, Roy. Don’t pay attention to him. We are coming down in five minutes.”
“No, we are not,” I tell her, snatching the phone from her and hanging up.
“Why not?”
“Because,” I pull her to my chest, her scent engulfing me like a warm hug. “You look too beautiful, and I want to be the only one who looks at you.”
She rolls her eyes, though a smile warms up her face.
