I swear to god, that man would be the nightmare of a purge. Or make a great psycho ax killer.
Right now he looks like both, knocking the tip of his baseball bat against the door in a manic rhythm.
By now, I think he wouldn’t even have to touch Gavin to make sure he never again does what he did to Posie today. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we find the man hiding in his closet in a puddle of his own piss.
Grinning, I follow Ezekiel around the house in a slow prowl.
I don’t usually join him when he does this, but I have to admit, it’s great entertainment. Watching him jump up to the windows, and letting the bat rattle along the grating of the basement openings.
It takes us roughly 5 minutes to find a way into the house. And about 10 more to find Gavin in the kitchen.
Ezekiel drops his bat to the side of his body, the tip hitting the dirty floor.
“What the fuck?”
He stares at the scene before him in confusion, and so do I.
There’s cash on the table. And an empty bottle of pills. And Gavin.
From what it looks like, he is out cold. His hair is plastered to his scalp in wet looking strands, and there’s sweat beading on his face. The stale scent of cheap vodka fills the air.
Ezekiel lifts his bat, poking the motionless man before us.
All that happens is that a long snore comes from Gavin’s mouth.
So he’s not dead.
Turning to me, Ezekiel lifts one of his brows.
I shrug, the same confusion knotting my brows that I can see in his grey eyes.
“Let’s take him.” Ez suggests.
“Take him where?”
It’s not like we have a murder basement. Or an interrogation room where we could keep this piece of shit.
“Your place?” Ez asks, causing me to let out a deep growl in answer.
“No.”
Ivory is at my place. And Posie. There’s no way in hell, I’m letting this piece of shit come within screaming distance to either of them.
Ezekiel seems to come to the same conclusion.
We’re both staring down at Gavin.
What the fuck happened here? He can’t have possibly thought I’d come for him. And yet… It feels like he expected trouble. He might be a low life, but I doubt he knocks himself out dead with pills every night just for the fun of it. Doubt he could afford it too.
“Let’s wait.”
I turn to look at Ez again.
“Wait for what?”
“For him to wake up again.”
My face pulls into a grimace. There are multiple reasons I don’t want to sit around here and wait for Gavin to come back from the dead. One, we don’t know if someone else might show up, family or friends. Two, if I’m here, I won’t be going home to see Ivory.
