Another slap, this one harder. I didn’t know he found that funny.
“Looking forward to it,” Khaos says with that smirk.
Guess he does, too.
“Why are you here again?” I ask him point-blank.
“I live here.”
“Why? Aren’t you an adult?”
“Aren’t you?”
“Yeah, but this is my mom’s house.”
“And she’s married to my dad, so…”
“So that doesn’t make this his house.”
“It’s his home. Which makes it mine, too.”
His expression doesn’t exactly scream thrilled. Does he not want to be here?
“Do you go to school?”
“Not since high school.”
“What grade did you make it to?” I can’t help but ask. In addition to a mug shot, he has the markings of a recent fight on his face, he goes around accosting strangers, and he’s following his dad around even though he’s over eighteen. Obviously, he’s a loser. A good-looking loser but a loser nonetheless.
Guy tries, and fails, to stifle a snicker.
Khaos shoots a scowl at him before leveling it on me.
“Twelfth. And before you ask, yes, I graduated.”
“How long ago was that?”
“Two years ago.”
“So you’re a…twenty-year-old…” I pause to see if he’ll correct me. When he doesn’t, I continue by stating, rather than asking, “Freeloader.”
“I got a job.”
My eyebrows lift on their own. He’s been in Sea Haven for less than a day and already has a job lined up? Sure.
“Do you?” he questions.
“Yes.”
“Do you?” Guy asks.
Now it’s my turn to frown at my boyfriend.
“I don’t?” He’s complained about it enough times.
A shrug is his only answer, which technically, isn’t one at all.
Okay, what is his problem today? Is he always this condescending to me? Or am I being sensitive because I…did what I did?
