“Is this how you talk to someone you’re trying to set up with your friend?”
“I don’t…know.”
“Is it how you talk to a girl that isn’t yours?”
“Well—”
“No. It’s not. It’s how you talk to someone you want to yourself. It’s secretive. It’s possessive. It’s…” I glance down between our bodies, at how good they look together despite the size difference. “Familiar.”
“What does this have to do with—”
“This is how Guy was talking to Lisann. You okay with your man rubbing his dick on another chick the second you’re out of the room?”
“He wasn’t—”
“How the fuck would you know, Rug? You were too drunk to know what was happening to your own body, let alone anyone else’s.”

She struggles to free herself but I hold fast.
“I have. A lot. Always with you in mind.”
“I hope that’s not all you did this summer,” she sneers.
“And if it was?”
“That’d be really pathetic.”
“More pathetic than staying with a cheater?”
“Yes.”
“No.” I give her another disapproving headshake. She knows it’s not. She’s just being stubborn.
“I didn’t stay with a cheater.”
“You’re with Guy.”
“No, I’m not.”
“What?” I search her face for any hint of humor. Tina was right? The motherfucking stupid-ass winds were right? “Since when? Just now?” I didn’t see them talk before she left to come over here but maybe that’s what she was doing on her phone, breaking up with him in a text.
“Since beginning of June sometime.”
“Who ended it?”
“Me.”
“Then why is he acting like you two are still together?” And why is she?
Her eyes fall from mine, and I already know I’m not going to like what comes next.
“Because we…”
