As she turns to leave, I rush out, “You’re a pussy, too.”
“How?”
“You act different around him.”
She shakes her head. “I don’t think I do.”
“You do and it’s…”
“What?”
“Pathetic.”
“You know what’s pathetic?”
On the verge of a smile, I motion for her to continue.
“You thinking we’re equal in any way. This is just another place you’re squatting in, except instead of a beat-up sofa like your friends let you sleep on, my mom gave you a designer bed.”
How does she know I’ve been crashing with friends?
Her gaze falls down my body. Unfortunately, it’s not at all sexy like I’d prefer. It’s degrading.
I absolutely am less than Kota Rhodes. But I still live under the same roof as her, so on that, we are equal.
“It’s eating you up that I live here now, huh?”
“The only thing that eats me is my boyfriend.”
Not gonna lie, that was a good comeback. Don’t like the visual but…props to her.
Can’t let her win though.
“Yeah? What would he think if he knew I had a taste?”
It was small and not nearly enough, but it was something.
“Tell him and you’ll be homeless all over again.”
Damn. I might actually have to give her this one.
We wait each other out, neither of us moving an inch.
“Exactly. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m ovulating and Guy’s waiting.”
I clench my fists.
“He better be gone by midnight.” Midnight? Who am I, Fairy fucking Godmother?
“He won’t be,” Kota says sweetly before disappearing into her room and slamming the door behind her.
I’m at the counter the next morning, eating my Greek yogurt and granola, when Kota’s boyfriend waltzes in, fresh as a fucking daisy—if a daisy can get its dick wet for twenty-four hours straight.
“Hey, man,” he says with a head nod.
I grunt like my mouth is full.
It’s not.
