“Kota,” I growl out. If she falls down these stairs, I’m gonna kill her.
“You wanted to electrocute me this morning and now you’re worried about me going down a flight of steps? Give me a fucking break, Khaos.”
Just when I thought the girl couldn’t get any hotter, she drops the f-bomb.
When she goes right, so do I. She tries left, but I’m already there, blocking her.
Smirking, I taunt, “Nice try, Sis.”
The last thing I’m expecting is her to push me, literally fucking push me, both hands braced on my shoulders and everything, but Kota’s constantly surprising me. My lower half bows forward to counteract the sudden change, hitting Kota’s legs and making her fall back on her ass with a yelp.
Thankfully, I only wobble in place a few seconds before coming to a standstill.
Now that’s humiliating. Isn’t she supposed to be athletic or something?
Grabbing the stair above her head, I lean into her face and look between the eyes I thought were baby blue but are actually dusty blue and say, “You really thought you could push me down the stairs?”
She leans back onto her elbows to avoid my proximity, and when she shakes her head, her curled locks flutter over her bare shoulders and collarbone, revealing two thin-ass straps holding up that teeny, tiny, might-as-well-not-even-be-there top.
“Then why the fuck did you try?”
“I didn’t. I lost my balance.”
“The fuck you did.”
Stepsis shrugs like she doesn’t care if I believe her. I don’t. She keeps putting her hands on me, then feigning innocence. Kota Rhodes is not as innocent as everybody—including Kota Rhodes—thinks.
“You’re lucky I’m good on my feet.”
“I’m not your sis.”
I drag my gaze down the flawless body beneath mine. Nope, not my sis. Not even mine.
If she was, she’d be putting her hands on me for completely different reasons.
Her loud swallow pulls my attention back to her throat, then face. The fact it’s pinker than it was a second ago pleases the shit out of me.
What does she think about the position we’re in?
“So don’t call me that.”
“Or what? You’ll try to kill me again?”
“I didn’t try… Ugh. I’m sorry for bumping into you. Okay?”
I shake my head, not giving her an ounce of forgiveness. That was no bump.
“But you are…”
“What?”
After a minute of her eyes roaming all around us, she mumbles, “Vexing.”
“Vexing?” That’s not at all what I thought she was gonna say.
Impressive, maybe. I’m about double her size, at least that’s how it feels.
Chivalrous. I did come all the way up here to fetch her.
