“Could you be any more obvious?” I hiss as soon as we’re alone.
“About what?”
“About…” I motion between us.
All that does is make Khaos smile.
“About us fucking? I could be a lot more obvious about it.”
“I doubt that.”
“I could fuck you right in front of him.”
My face blanches on its own as I mumble, “I’m sure he’d love that.”
Other than the muscle in his jaw jumping, nothing on him moves. Did he notice the way his dad was leering at me, too?
“Would it matter?” he asks.
“If your dad saw us having sex?”
“If he knew.”
“Of course it would matter. What if he told my mom?”
“You don’t want Sera to find out we’re fuck—”
“No. God. That would be terrible.”
“Why?”
“Because we’re…related.”
Khaos scoffs like we’re not, but um, yes, we are.
“Our parents are literally married, making us related. In the court’s eyes. In our parents’ eyes. In everybody’s eyes.”
“That shit doesn’t count. We’re adults.”
“It does count.”
“Barely. We just met.”
I shake my head. It doesn’t matter how we see ourselves. The rest of the world—including my mom—does, and will, see us as some form of siblings, making what we’re doing taboo.
“I have to go. I don’t want to be late.”
“What time will you be done?”
“I don’t know. Hopefully early.”
“All right. I’ll be here whenever you get home.”
He goes in for a kiss but I move out of the way.
Shadows dance across his handsome face. “What the fuck?”
“I…um…” I stammer. “My mom.”
