“Considering you didn’t apologize, no.”

“I’m sorry.” Approaching me, he grabs me by the hips, pulling me into him. “Were you scared?”

“Yes.” But also, kind of turned on.

Khaos doesn’t need to know that though. He still has some groveling to do.

“Me, too.”

If everything about him wasn’t so somber right now, I’d laugh. Khaos? Scared?

“What were you scared of?”

“Losing you. I fucking love you, Kota, so much. I’m not gonna give you up without a fight. I won’t.”

“Spoken like an MMA fighter.” I cross my wrists behind his neck.

Eyes hooded and on my lips, he asks, “Do you want me to make it up to you?”

I rear back. “Are you seriously trying to get lucky right now?”

“I got lucky the day I moved in with you. Now I’m just trying to earn my keep.”

“By making me your roommate?”

“By making you come as often as possible. The door gives me easier access.”

“That’s a door.” I point at my actual door before changing direction to Khaos’s handiwork. “That’s a gaping hole.”

“I’ll fix it.”

“You know how?”

“No, but I know someone who does.”

“What are we going to tell my mom?”

“Nothing.”

“Khaos. She’s going to find out. It’s her house.”

The doubt on his face is palpable. “When does she ever come in either of our rooms?”

“I don’t know.” I do know. Never. At least not while we’re in them.

“You need to start locking your door all the time, not just when we’re in it together.”

It sounds more like an accusation than a suggestion and I immediately go on the defense.

“I didn’t have a reason to lock it before now.”

“You had two strange men in your house. You should’ve been locking your door from day one.”

“It’s not like your dad would ever have a reason to come in here.”

When Khaos doesn’t respond, I say, “Unless he was after something…”

“Like what?” Releasing me, he steps back.
