Kota doesn’t want me anywhere near her and there’s no one else I can call to take care of my—Her. There’s no one else I can call to take care of her.

There’s one person but he’s the reason why I’m here right now instead of taking care of Kota myself.

“Wait out the storm,” is the only suggestion and it’s from, no surprise, the sea witch herself.

“And tonight? I’m just supposed to leave her on her own?”

I get two bewildered shrugs.

My head shakes on its own. “I can’t do that.”

“She’s a big girl, Khaos,” Tina says, using my real name for a change.

“She’s my girl.” Fuck it. She is. Still. I don’t give a fuck what Kota says, she’s mine to keep safe and I’ll do anything to make sure she is. Even swallow my pride and rage, and do something I never, ever thought I would.

“Where are you going?” Dex asks as I charge past.

“To make a call.”

He answers on the third ring, trying the fuck out of my thin-as-thread patience.

“Go for G5.”

“She needs you.” That gag returns, this time accompanied by actual puke. I manage to swallow it back but just barely.

“Oh yeah? What operation is she having now?”

“No operation. Just…she’s alone. Our parents don’t get back until tomorrow.”

He’s quiet for a moment. Does he know about Kota’s sleep paralysis?

“And when they go out of town next time? What happens then?”
