“Guy?” Tina sighs. “I’m not in anyone’s bedroom but my own, so I don’t know. But she’s hard to ignore.” She waves toward Lisann. “Don’t you think?”
I look away from Lisann easily.
“You sound jealous.”
“I don’t want Guy Humphries.”
“You want her?”
“Hm.” Tina tilts her head, still transfixed by Lisann. “She’s a beautiful vampire, but she’s still a vampire.”
I nod like I know what that means. With or without the weed, I’m pretty sure Tina’s batshit crazy.
“Is that why you passed me over?”
“Because you have a penis?”
I chuckle. I may not understand this girl, but for some reason, I like her.
“Penises are okay sometimes.”
My chuckle grows. “Only sometimes?”
“Depends who they’re attached to.” She shrugs. “Look, I’m an equal opportunist, okay? But the reason I passed you over has nothing to do with your equipment and everything to do with the fact that…you’re not mine.”
“I’m not anyone’s,” I argue before second-guessing myself. Didn’t I tell someone I had a girlfriend?
Was it Kota? Is that why Tina thinks that? Because Kota was talking about me?
“Oh, Khaos, my new friend. You’re so lucky you have me to guide you.”
“Guide me where exactly?”
This is, hands down, the weirdest conversation of my life.
“Where all sailors are trying to get. Home.”
“My home’s in New York.”
“The city?”
“Yep.”
People who live in NYC just call it New York. People who live around NYC call it the city. And everyone else in the world calls it New York City.
“But you’re in Sea Haven because…”
“This is where my dad wants me.”
“That’s sweet.”
I don’t comment on that either way. My dad’s the only family I got. He needs me, so I’m here.
“Tell me about my new stepfamily. What’s their deal?”
“You don’t know?”
“I don’t know shit about them. My dad only met Sera a few months ago.”
