7 Minutes in Sea Haven

“Time to get up.”

“What? Why?”

“Because I’m thirsty.”

“Okay.” She goes to roll over.

“Who’s gonna watch over you?”

“Poseidon.”

“You and your fucking sea shit,” I mutter as I get up. “Are you gonna be okay if I leave you?”

Seconds pass before she says, “Thanks for your service, rail meat.”

“I don’t know what that—”

She’s already asleep again.

“Hey.” I grab the closest girl. “Keep an eye on her, would you?”

She eyes Tina, but nods.

I find the keg and pour myself a cup. With the first taste of beer, I hear, “What did you do to Tina?”

One glimpse of Tina and I see she’s exactly where I left her. The girl I left in charge is where she’s supposed to be, too.

I slowly bring my attention back to the motherfucker in front of me. He’s locked and loaded, ready to brawl, but I don’t know why. It didn’t sound like Tina was spoken for, least of all by a man, so what’s his beef?

“What the fuck is it to you?”

“I’m her brother.”

That makes a lot more sense. They even resemble each other except instead of tits, he’s got pecs. Not as big as mine, but obviously he hits the weights, too.

“No shit?”

“No shit.”

“Nothing, man. We smoked, she passed out, I left someone to keep an eye on her. All’s good.”

He studies me for another minute before cracking a smile and sticking out his fist. “Always happy to make a new friend.”

Another friend. At least this one’s a dude.

“You as weird as your sister?” I ask while bumping the side of his fist with the side of mine.

“Did she overload you with sailing references?”

“A bit.”

“She does that. If she’s not in the water, on the water, or around the water, she’s talking about the water. Our parents made all of us do summer camp at their yacht club when we were little, but Tina’s the only one who made it her whole personality.”

“How many siblings you got?”

“Three sisters.”

“Oh, shit. That sounds like hell.”
