“Don’t you ever, in your fucking life, speak to or look at Amill again! You understand me bitch ass nigga? Spraying her motha fuckin business like that. You see how I fucked you up on stream? Go to the police and see what the fuck I’m willing to do off stream. You grew up in Atlanta. Only weak-ass child your mammy or pappy brought into this world. You went to GSU. Your mama still lives in the hood because you wanna rock an AP instead of investing in a decent place for her to lay her head. You rent that house you stream in, but your real house is off Wildridge Drive in Duluth.”

His eyes widened.

“Yeah, motha fucka. I did my research when I first found out about you. Had to make sure you weren’t on any type of registry to be in Amill’s presence. I was willing to let her go, but not anymore. If it ain’t me. It’ll never be yo’ bitch ass!”

Travis’ eyes rolled back in his head, and Xain grabbed me in a bear hug. I released Travis and calmly raised my hands. “I’m done. Get the fuck off of me, nigga!”

Xain released me and stepped back.

All eyes were on me while Travis lay unconscious on the ground.

I scanned the yard for Amill. She was a few steps away, looking ashamed.

“You moving on to a lame ass nigga who would spray you like that?” I shook my head.

“Well, Stepp, if you would—” she huffed. “You know what? Ughhhh!” Amill kicked off her heels and ran into the house crying.

“So wait,” Yaseer refocused his attention on me now that the nigga who disrespected his daughter was handled. “Did you start dealing with my daughter when y’all were in Milan? When you were supposed to be protecting her? That’s an imbalance of power? And you decided to—”

His words fell short because that crazy motha fucka started coming across the table at me.

I planted my feet, ready to go toe-to-toe with her pops if that’s what it took to get jumped into the family. Marissa yoked him up by the collar before he could make it halfway. His head swiveled to Q standing next to me.

“And you knew about this shit, didn’t you? You be in Miami visiting your people just as much as Amill. Fuck nigga, I want my kidney back! I gave you my kidney, and this how you do me?” He huffed, tapping his chest.

“I’m my sister’s keeper. I ain’t running her business back. She grown.” Q laughed, raising his hands. “Besides, neither Amill nor Stepp ever told me. I only know because Karmello saw Amill leaving Stepp’s house once. I mind my business.”

Xain stood behind Yaseer and waved his hand over his head while mouthing the word steam. It took everything in me not to laugh.

“You know they say if a nigga will go through your phone, he’ll steal from you. Check his pockets and make sure he ain’t trying to run up out of here with anything that doesn’t belong to him,” Khaleesi’s mother interrupted the awkward silence, pointing down at Travis.

“I love this fuckin’ family.” Vincent laughed, raising his glass for Khaleesi’s mother to clink together. They were the only two still seated. “What’s your name again?”

“Carmen. I’m new around here, but I love it too. I see why Khaleesi refuses to leave Florida,” she cackled, then finished off her champagne.

Quincy plopped down in his seat and kissed Bebe’s shoulder. “This is the family you will be joining. It’s always some shit going on.”

“Always,” Mama Marissa lamented, flopping into her seat.

“As long as I’m with you, I can handle it,” Bebe cooed, and Quincy pecked her lips.

“Well, Stepp ruined the beautiful setup, but the food is still inside. I’m sending the servers home. Everybody, feed yourselves, and somebody either toss his ass into the bay or get him to a hospital, but he can’t bleed out on my lawn,” Marissa fumed, stomping into the house.

Yaseer stormed off behind Marissa, and I mugged Xain. “You happy nigga?”

“What I do?” He laughed, peeling Travis off the ground.

I hooked Travis in the ribs when Xain stood him up right.

“Come on nigga, he down.”

I went into the kitchen and made my plate, but stopped when I heard Amill and Yaseer going at it upstairs. Grabbing a second plate for Amill, I got back to it. Clearly I’d have to take her with me.

MEANWHILE UPSTAIRS WITH AMILL

My light sobs filled the room as I searched for my phone. It was dying when we got there, and I thought I’d put it on the charger, but it must’ve grown legs and walked off. Thunderous footsteps entered my room behind me, and I knew it was my dad.

“I’m not in the mood, Dad,” I grumbled.
