“Griff? You okay?”

Somehow, I nod. But it’s another minute before I can answer. “You were trying to wingman me? Joke’s on you, asshole, I was trying to do the same. For you.”

“What the fuck?” he blurts out. “You’re not serious. Why? She’s way outta my league, dude.”

I scoff. “Yeah, right, that’s the biggest pile of bullshit I’ve ever heard. You’re always the one to get her to laugh and relax. You make her happy.”

“And you’re Mister Dependable. You’re smart and you’ve got your shit together. I’m the life of the party and that’s it.”

“You think being dependable is more important than making her happy? Come on, Foxxy.”

He throws his hands up in the air with a groan. “Yes? No? Hell, I don’t know. She deserves it all.”

“She does,” I say quietly. I pull off my baseball cap so I can drag my fingers through my hair, tugging at the strands that are in need of a trim. “This is insane, you know that, right?”

“Yup,” he grunts. “So what are we gonna do about it?”

“I mean, what can we do? I’m not going to make a move on someone you’re interested in.”

“Neither am I.” He’s quick to respond. “Besides, she’s Kyle’s sister.”

“Right.” I pause. “Except, that doesn’t really matter anymore, does it? We’re all adults.”

“True,” he says cautiously. “But that’s beside the point. I’m not the right guy for her, and for some stupid reason, you think you aren’t, either.”

“It’s about as stupid as you thinking that about yourself,” I fire back.

Foxxy lets his head tilt back as he stares at the ceiling and exhales. Silence falls between us for a few seconds until it’s interrupted by the chime of a calendar alert on both of our phones going off at the same time. Mine’s in my pocket, so I drag it out and glance down.

“We need to leave in five for the team dinner.”

Foxxy straightens and nods. “I’m ready when you are.”

“Same.”

I look at him steadily. “Are we good?”

His face relaxes into his usual smile as he holds out a fist for me to bump. “Always. Not a chance I’d let a woman get between us. Not even one as amazing as Olivia.” He waggles his eyebrows and winks. “Although, Olivia in between us sounds kinda fun.”

I shove at his shoulder with a laugh. “Fuck off. Kyle’s sister, remember?” As I turn and walk toward my bedroom to grab a clean shirt, I hear him call out in a joking tone, “Doesn’t matter anymore, remember?”

That thought sticks in my head as we walk down to my truck. I wait until we’re on the road before I say, “Do you think she’d even consider that?”

“Who? What?” He looks up from his phone, confused by my vague question. But Foxxy’s a smart guy and catches on quickly. “Oh. I mean, she might. Would you?”

“Would you?” I fire back.

“Hell yeah. Sharing is caring. And it kinda makes sense, you know?” He shifts in his seat, turning to face me. I know without looking that his expression will be eager. Excited.

“She’s fantastic. One of a kind. And she deserves everything. But what one guy can give a woman everything? No one, that’s who,” he barrels on, answering his own question. “But two of us? Now, that’s a solid plan.”

“Okay, slow your roll, Foxxy.” I grip the steering wheel tightly. “This is all hypothetical. Imaginary. Not reality.”

“But if the situation presented itself?” he asks.

I don’t answer immediately. My head is telling me no. The rest of me is saying yes. Ah hell, it’s not like it’ll ever happen. So there’s no harm in admitting how I feel.

“If the situation presents itself, I’m in.”
