“We’re going to need the three of you to show proof of your whereabouts,” Baldy stated.

I couldn’t figure out why he looked victorious, and I wasn’t able to hear anything from his mind except a strange static noise. His partner’s mind sounded the same, but he looked more nervous than anything else.

“That won’t be an issue at all, but I do need to know if the videos will be viewed by pack or local officials.”

“We can’t disclose—”

“Then this interview is over,” I interrupted, shrugging my shoulders.

Baldy stood, trying to be intimidating as he leered over me. When I showed no emotions to him, he spat on my fucking floor. I was out of my chair before Briggs could tighten his grip on my shoulder.

I snatched his right arm behind his back as I swept his legs out from under him. He hit the ground, his face inches from his bodily fluid.

I made eye contact with Glasses as I leaned down to whisper in Baldy’s ear, making sure they knew my threat was for both of them.

“I don’t care what you are, who you are, or who you work for. If you ever spit on my property again, I will pick all the saliva related glands straight out of your fucking mouth with my freshly manicured nails.”

Glasses spluttered as he shot out of his seat. “But we’re not done.”

“Yes,” Vaughn snapped. “You very much are.”

“I’ll show them to the door, Madam,” Franklin announced from the doorway. The corner of his lips tilted up as I shoved Baldy’s head into his own spit when I stood.

“Thank you, Franklin,” I sang, heading straight to Novak as I smoothed my t-shirt down. Well, Vaughn’s, but I wasn’t giving it back willingly.

“We have more questions,” Glasses yelled, and I paused between my mates, observing how wrecked he suddenly looked.

“And we have a meeting with the Supreme Alpha this week, so we’ll be happy to answer your questions with legal counsel representing all four of us.” I waved at him as Franklin shoved him into the foyer.

“Have a safe trip back to North Fork,” I called. “And don’t forget to take your nosy friend with you.”

Novak handed me my cell phone, and my dad’s voice bounced around the living room. “I didn’t know they were there, and there aren’t any official files on you or your mates.”

“Fucking lovely,” I muttered. “They were acting weird. None of us could get a clear read on their minds.”

I peered at Novak, double checking what I’d just assumed. My vampire shook his head; he hadn’t heard any thoughts either.

“There is a stack of missing shifter reports on my desk, though,” Dad mused aloud. “What are the odds that the rogues are connected to the impromptu house call you just received?”

“All the odds,” I drawled, sighing as I rubbed my forehead. “You do realize that the moment we step foot onto pack property, it’s going to be worse than Hell, right, Dad?”

“Yeah, pretty lady. I do, but Hell wasn’t that bad this time.” He chuckled, sounding stressed. “While you’re here, I think I have something that I need your help with. You up for a little murder and mayhem with your old man this week?”

“Always, Dad. We’ll be there tomorrow.”

Epilogue

Anna Stanley

Monday Night

My thoughts drifted as Katie filled me in on all the changes that were happening to our test subjects. Weak fucking shifters. We needed to entice stronger shifters, not just physically stronger but mentally as well. I’d scouted out a few new prospects, although we hadn’t been successful in trapping them yet.

This group was almost to the point where we could let them roam free and catalog the damage they dealt. I shivered at the idea of chaos, wishing I could inject myself with the SEF47 and not lose my mind. If I was better than I already was… no one and nothing would stand in the way of the things I wanted.

“Are you listening to me?” Katie questioned, glaring at me over the rims of her pink reading glasses. “This shit is important, Anna. You can’t space out.”

I wrinkled my nose, at the smell and her attitude. “The warehouse stinks. How many died this week?”
