“There’s always that one eejit with grabby hands.” Hyde rolled her eyes, then turned to Palmer and sassed, “I used it right that time, yeah?”
“That bitch ass bitch!” Jack exclaimed. “Did you kill him?”
“No, but we put the fear of the Third Devil in them.” York smirked. “Told them she’d be watching them.”
Jack pouted. “You should have yelled for me. I would have helped you. Probably eaten a kidney from each of them too.”
I couldn’t even comment back to Jack. I’d listened to those cunts, more than happy to let the girls handle themselves. I’d gotten possessive over Sloane and protective over Hyde when they’d been touched.
I wouldn’t have called for anyone to help; York was just lucky that he’d arrived when he did.
As far as I could see, Sloane loved Hyde, and that made me feel like the petite succubus was a new little sister.
Barbie was mine, and I wasn’t going to let anyone else touch her, other than her mates. I didn’t feel any jealousy toward the guys when they were with her or touching her. But more than just Hyde, I felt protective over all the people Barbie cared for.
“Barbie?” I questioned cautiously. “Why is that big gray demon in the corner staring at Jack like he wants to gut him? I thought he was watching us all, but he hasn’t taken his eyes off Jack since we got to the table.”
She twisted her body, tugging at Vaughn’s hair playfully as she sought out the perceived threat. The moment she found him, her lips tilted into a frown.
“What are the odds?” she pondered quietly.
“You thought this was the kind of place I wanted to celebrate my birthday at?” Hyde interjected, swinging her finger in a circle to encase the whole bar. “You gave me a task, Lo, and I’m pretty fucking good at delivering.”
“What are you talking about, Hyde? You couldn’t have found him that fast,” Dolyn speculated as he stretched his arms over his head.
The gray demon glanced at our group, focused back on Jack once more, and then stood to leave.
“That’s Satan,” Barbie disclosed in a hushed tone, stalking his movements as he strolled out the door. “Come on. We’re leaving.”
Barbie was out of her seat and at the door before I could comprehend what she’d just said, Novak and Stone a step behind her.
They wrangled her between them as they exited the bar, Vaughn and Palmer taking up positions at her back. I stayed on Hyde’s right, Dolyn on her left, as we followed them. York and Grim flanked Jack as they came out behind us.
Catching me gazing at my mate as she prowled ahead of us, Hyde whispered to me, “You keep looking at her like that, she’s gonna end up pregnant.”
I grunted at her. “Don’t call me out like that. It’s not nice.”
She snorted. “It was a warning, Wolf.”
“I can’t see him anymore,” Barbie grumbled. “Hyde, do you see any heat signatures? I can faintly smell a few trails, but I can’t spot a fresh one with all the traffic in this area.”
Realizing Satan had disappeared, the girls took the lead, my mate still using her heightened sense of smell while Hyde used her enhanced eyesight.
As they rounded the next corner ahead of us, catcalls rang out from a small group of males. I wanted to groan and roll my eyes.
Gods.
The Underworld had been pretty fucking amazing until we’d come to Hell. The city center was brimming with the worst kinds of demons. Criminals I could handle, but sexist douchebags? They were literally on every corner.
Barbie was already a magnet for trouble, and it doubled with Hyde at her side. It probably didn’t help that she was unrecognizable to the demons, the slight magical changes that she’d made to blend in were also masking her power.
She and the little succubus looked like sisters, with their flowing black hair and striking features. If I had to guess, I’d say she appeared to hold the same power as Hyde did to strangers as well.
One of the males dropped what looked like a joint at first glance, grinding the toe of his shoe over it.
“What’s the going rate for you and your friend?” he called out from across the street.
His buddy elbowed him. “They’ve already got a horde to work for tonight. Don’t be a dick, Bob. Let the ladies make their money how they can.”
