I had too many options, but I always leaned toward my favorite methods.

My mage stared at the ceiling. “Don’t do it. We need someone to take the blame for all this damage.”

I didn’t know who we were trying to appease when we would be in charge soon. My father wasn’t even on Earth, and all the major guild issues reverted to the Kings, anyway. We would be the ones cleaning up and paying for all the damage, regardless of who took the fall.

Keeping this asshole alive would do no good.

I felt my nostrils flare as Palmer stared at me. I called a scrap of that bright orange magic to my hand, slinging my arm forcefully. The thin magical rod shot from my palm, slicing straight through the intruder’s chest and out his back, destroying the wall behind him.

“Whoops.”

Palmer shook his head, cursing, “Fecking hell.”

“I sneezed.” I shrugged as an angry grin tugged my lips up.

“No, you didn’t,” he said in exasperation.

“I thought about faking one…”

Palmer aggressively scrubbed his hands over his face. “Go clean your mess up. That’s the least you can do now.”

I scoffed at him, but then decided to be a smart ass. He was ruining my adrenaline high, and the petty arguing was making me feel... Petty.

Godsdamnit.

I swiped my hand out in front of my chest, mocking the motion of knocking something off a counter or desk. One by one, the bodies disappeared into the frigid winds of the Void.

“Done.” I shot him a bright smile, then let my expression fall into a blank mask as I asked, “Anything else, Love?”

Early Morning

Briggs and I popped out of the Void into Amelia King’s home with Murphy and Miller. We stood in silence for a minute, listening to our surroundings, but we heard no one.

Miller slapped the folder full of documents against my chest and marched straight to the kitchen. I stared at the ceiling, contemplating how mad Sloane would be if I left the Lynch twins with Briggs and hopped back to the guild.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Murphy shouted at his twin’s retreating back.

She raised her hand above her shoulder, her middle finger the only answer he’d get to his question.

“I take it you two were arguing again?” Briggs rumbled.

“Her ex called while we were looking through the records,” Murph admitted quietly. “He wanted to confirm their meeting tonight. She wouldn’t tell Palmer or me anything about it other than Sloane was going with her.”

I tilted my head in consideration. “I wouldn’t worry then. Trouble won’t let anything happen to Miller. We can send York with them too since he hasn’t been seen around any of you.”

He grimaced. “The Devil only knows how many goons he’ll have with him. Your mate kept Palmer and the others with her to fight four guys…”

Murphy trailed off, waiting for us to read between his lines.

Briggs huffed at him. “When they get back, ask them how many of those henchmen they killed.”

“Looks are deceiving, Murph,” I commented, squeezing his shoulder and handing Briggs the folder as I went to check on Miller. “She sent us with you two because she knew we’d jump in the fight even if she didn’t need help.”
