As she stormed out of the bedroom, I decided today was one of those days.
Some of us needed to sleep. And though I needed less than most druids, thanks to our bond, I was still fucking tired. We all were. Vaughn had the right idea about taking a nap.
But now everyone was awake.
“Holy shit.” Stone grimaced. “What happened?”
“Which one of them broke your nose?” Briggs asked, forest green eyes studying her. “I didn’t think they were that rough with you.”
Vaughn snorted, then frowned. “And why didn’t you stab them? I got threatened for being nice.”
“It wasn’t York or Novak,” she assured them, though she rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Because she was exhausted too. She just wouldn’t stop until all of this was over, until the threats were gone.
“Then who, Love?” Palmer tipped her chin up to better see her injury.
“Alric.”
“He was here?” Vaughn demanded.
She held her hand up. “No.”
“Can you explain this?” Stone gave her a bored glance. “We need more than one-word answers.”
Sloane rolled her eyes up, pulling her mouth down like she was stretching her face. “Someone fix my nose, please. It’s already setting.”
Vaughn tugged her to sit in the armchair, soothing his fingers over her cheeks before he snapped her nose back into place. She didn’t even flinch. That calmness was more worrisome than her anger.
“Can you explain now?” Stone inquired.
She nodded as she spoke. “I’ve just realized who has come to play in my chaos.”
“That sounds vague,” Briggs commented.
“It is.” She shrugged. “I don’t know how else to skirt around the topic.”
“There’s a reason behind this?” Palmer queried.
“Alric is in my head.”
I knew that before we walked out of the bedroom, but it still shocked me to hear her say it so matter-of-factly.
“How?” the mage challenged.
“I don’t know,” she stated. “But I’m going to figure it out.”
“So, you’re being vague because?” Briggs prompted.
Novak pulled at his hair. “He’s now very present in her mind. The locks broke. Her mental security is down.”
Vaughn nodded. “You don’t want to talk about anything important in too much detail.”
“I don’t want to think about anything until he’s gone,” Sloane told us. “I’m as good as grounded right now.”
“What the fuck does that mean?” Stone quietly questioned us.
I rubbed my neck. “It means she can’t do anything until he’s out of her head.”
